36 minutes roughly related to the life of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt. In standard Curiosulus fashion meandering deviations are explored and cover important topics such as ancient and modern pleasure barges, professional walkers, and how many of Cleopatra’s noses still exist. Enjoy!
In this episode we take a meandering look at Boudica, the famous Briton warrior queen, and her rebellion against Rome which culminated at the Battle of Watling Street. Tangents include: elephants in Colchester, Roman roads, Guthlac the hermit and some long ropes, and how Tolkien came up with his Ents. Enjoy!
After a little hiatus, we're back!
And we thought what better way to get going again than to arbitrarily start a second series. This series will be governed by the general theme of WOMEN IN ANTIQUITY, because the ancient world was a very male-dominated place so it's cool to see what some of the other half of the population got up to.
To start you off, then, we present a first cohort of kickass women: women who flourished, influenced, machinated, dominated, threw their weight around, pursued their own interests and agendas, and generally kicked ass in the ancient Mediterranean. Two Hellenics and two Romans - check them out!
Lidge and Will take a look at Hannibal's momentous victory over Rome at the battle of Cannae in 216. Ever wondered what happened when Hannibal was invited to dinner by his eventual conqueror, Scipio? Ever wondered what a man, a snake, a monkey and a rooster tied up in a sack have to do with Cannae? Ever wondered what Hannibal's favourite elephant was called? Check out the episode to find out all this excellent trivia delightful trivia and much more. Enjoy!
In this episode, we take a look at Alcibiades, the prominent Athenian general, politician, speaker, and generally naughty boy. We explore his highs and lows, his political chameleon-ing, his eccentric activities, and wander down a bizarrely extended phallic tangent, as well as discussing the process of ostracism and pondering the nature of ancient Greek wine. Enjoy!
The Curiosulus team give you all the best bits (and dispel some of the common misunderstandings) of the iconic battle of Thermopylae!
"Homer and friends"
We're back! For this episode, Will and Lidge are joined by school chum Rob Cootes as we explore a few avenues of classical reception studies.
Join us as we explore the Homeric epics in public toilets, and predict our futures using Virgil's Aeneid. Lots of meandering classical content, how could anyone resist.
Battle of the Month to follow as part II.2 of the episode. Enjoy!
Ave! Welcome to the Curiosulus podcast! To start things off, we offer you a 'First Cohort' of quintessentially curiosulus Roman emperors (principes curiosuli, if you will), before taking a look at the Battle of the Teutoberg Forest, the Germanic tribes' destruction of three Roman legions - spoilers warning for those that haven't yet seen Barbarians!
