- Episode 36: Monster in Plain Sight
Send us Fan Mail
⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This episode contains major spoilers for Netflix’s “Ed Gein: The Real Monster.” Proceed at your own risk.⚠️
In this episode of Current Chatter, Kota and Losa dive deep into Netflix’s latest Monster series, unpacking the life, crimes, and disturbing legacy of Ed Gein. They dig into how the show portrays Gein’s twisted relationship with his mother, the trauma that shaped him, and how the series attempts to humanize a man who became one of America’s most infamous killers. The conversation explores the real history behind the episodes, the women whose lives were destroyed, and why Gein’s crimes continue to haunt pop culture through films like Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs.
Kota and Losa also challenge the series’ narrative choices — including the controversial “soft landing” the finale gives Gein — and debate whether the show struck the right balance between storytelling, shock value, and truth. From the insanity defense and small-town denial to media sensationalism and the psychology of obsession, the hosts pull apart both the man and the myth. They close by hinting at which “monster” they’re tackling next, and why these stories still grip audiences decades later.
