  • Discussing In Her Purpose a book by Rose Buado and Jennifer Redondo Marquez
Rose Buado and Jennifer Redondo-Marquez were born and raised in the United States (U.S.). Their parents left the Philippines to start a better life for themselves and their families. Like many Asian families, Filipino culture focuses on stability and many pursue “proven paths” like medicine, engineering, and the military. Growing up in America, they were taught to value the freedom of speech and thought. This is in direct contrast to the Asian culture where parental expectations create conflict because career goals and definitions of success are not aligned. Rose and Jennifer are just two examples of first-generation children learning what it means to be successful in the U.S. and how to navigate through it. They aim to bridge the gap of knowledge, experience, and support that many have felt coming of age, beginning careers and living life within purpose.

Rose and Jennifer embarked on the In Her Purpose project to advocate for women, to feed and fuel the future generation, and to spread love! With their first co-authored book, In Her Purpose: 40 Principles of Asian Women Redefining Success on Their Own Terms, they hope to inspire readers to discover their purpose, amplify their voice and share their true gifts with the world.

You can find their book on amazon here!

  • Discussing "EmpowHERed Health" by S. Mayumi Grigsby
In this next episode, I catch up with a friend, former law school classmate, and now published author, S. Mayumi Grigsby, to discuss her book, "EmpowHERed Health, Reforming a Dismissive Health Care System,” a book in which she explores her research and findings on the potential link between negative interactions with healthcare professionals and health inequity, while focusing on the experience of Black women in the U.S.

In this episode, we also touch on themes such as the lack in sex education through Mayumi's personal health story and the stories of members of the LGBTQ+ community, perspectives from health care professionals themselves on health inequity, and the social injustice and violence that has been at the forefront of this year.

  • Episode 22-My Thoughts on Wintering (a concept by Katherine May)
    Ever been in a rut?

This past month and a half or so, I definitely have been. I haven't wanted to sing, create, work on my podcast, journal, mediate- nothing. I had this visceral need to let go of my regimented lifestyle that I thought was crucial to my newly found well-being - and the results were surprising.

In this episode I discuss my thoughts on a concept I learned about called "Wintering" coined by writer, Katherine May. She describes our life "winters" as moments of retreat, and writes about ways we can gain power from rest and retreat.

Inspired by one of my favorite podcasts: "On Being with Krista Tippet" https://open.spotify.com/episode/3kd9DZfZDvNiOEsHG7sAwq?si=nIHbzw4FQAeFoJDEtKn0GQ
