Dr Tony Robinson was involved in founding the year 9 "Learning 4 Life" program at Gilson College, which attempts to create a "rite of passage" type experience for the students. The non-traditional strategies used in the program have been shown to build resilience, responsibility and respect in the participants. We also discuss the "hard" truths we must come to terms with in life that help us overcome challenges. And the values of capitalism which hinder community and selflessness.

Peter is a teacher at the school I work at. We often have deep philosophical conversations, and this is one of them. We discuss finding a purpose that is not focused on the self, and how he found that in his life. Additionally, dealing with anxiety in your life through meditative practices such as prayer and mindfulness; Allowing yourself to be guided by the moral compass within; and finally nutrition. Why it's important to watch what we consume.

During November the entire year 9 cohort at Gilson College was involved in an 8 day hiking expedition in the Bogong High Plains, Victoria, Australia. This episode contains reflections on the journey from a number of students who were eager to participate in the episode. They share memorable stories from the week, what they've learnt on the hike about themselves, and how the experience has shaped them and helped develop their character. There are some profound insights in there!

The year 9 students at my work participate in a service camp for two weeks. This episode is a debrief on the bus trip on the way home. The students offer insight into their perspective on service; reflect on what they learnt about sustainability and production; discuss good memories of the camp; and just general banter.
