Intriguing Story

Since the reviews are all over the board, I tried the book and I'm glad I did. The story line is a good one, the characters complex and well developed (a few are just a bit overdone), and the action lively. The main character, Stonecoat, is one of those that you either like or don't like. I finally got into him a good way into the book. He might have been a bit glorified, but hey, it's a story. The Indian lore was a nice touch (my wife is part Cherokee, so I am familiar with it). The only thing I didn't like about the book was the editing, or lack of it. Format errors abound in missed tabs, awkward word choices, misplaced or missing quotation marks, and misplaced strings of dialog that made it difficult to know what character was speaking. And, of course, numerous typos. I'm sure this kind of thing is unsettling to a lot of folks, but don't let that stop you from reading the book. It is very entertaining. I look forward to reading another of Robert Walker's books.

Lots of action with computer game as cover

I find this to be an interesting premise-- that what is intended to entertain and entrance can be evil transformed to the non-cyber world. The action just keeps rolling-- the flawed hero must feel like a pin cushion. A whiff of romance might just entice me to read on in the series.

Not really ready

Dear Mr Walker,

You have a good story in Cutting Edge. Kudos for that. However, it seems as if you are writing without benefit of an editor. Forgive me for saying so. The character development of Mere and Stonecutter is strong, although he may have too many things working against him at the beginning to make his subsequent strength believable.

Three things bear attention. Don't depend on spell check. "Agreed" is just not the same as "A greed."

Start a new paragraph when a different character begins talking, especially if you aren't going to name the speaker.

Mind your quotation marks. There is a paragraph in the Kindle version I'm reading that consists a single quotation mark.

Have you ever been to Medford? I felt as if you think they are clueless hicks. Fact is, there is a world famous Shakespeare festival only 15 miles away and the area is populated by some extremely sophisticated people. Your portrayal of the lawmen bordered on offensive.

I will finish Cutting Edge, since I want to know how you develop and tie up the plot, but I'm afraid I will not continue with the series based on what I've read. Sorry.

Fantastic!

This is the first book I have read by this author, but I plan to read more! I love the character of Stonecoat. He is real and very likable. Walker gives you enough background on him so that you can really understand him.
