Cutting Edge with Landon Sturdevant

In this episode, I had the honor of conversating with Brennen Saulness, the producer behind Lil Mosey's "Blueberry Faygo" and the mastermind behind 888 Recordings, the top studio in Bothell, WA, as well as its new location in Clemson, SC. He covers topics such as:

00:00 - Intro
01:00 - How he started producing and who influenced/inspired his craft
10:29 - His family, their dynamic, and how they've supported Brennen as an artist and a person
20:29 - How Brennen overcame external and internal doubts and trials throughout his career en route to his current success
27:49 - The incredible story behind his linkup with Lil Mosey and how it resulted in the conception of "Blueberry Faygo", and what makes Mosey the biggest Seattle influence
32:40 - How a visit to Mosey's LA home resulted in Brennen meeting and working with a pre-fame The Kid LAROI, and that moment coming full circle at the 2020 Blueberry Faygo video shoot
35:28 - How Brennen assisted in kickstarting the career of underground Seattle hip-hop artist Xavier Weeks
38:28 - The meaning behind 888/other angel numbers to Brennen
43:44 - What makes Brennen Saulness cutting edge

This one is a heavy-hitter for me...but in order for this podcast to live up to its name, I need to dig deep, be vulnerable, and hopefully impact others at a more personal level. In this episode, I talk about eczema, the chronic skin condition I've battled with my whole life, the physical and mental effects it had on me, and how one particular medication has changed the game for me. (Disclaimer: I say thirteenth episode by accident in the audio)

Stephen Curry has been renowned all over the world for his ability to shoot from beyond the arc- a skill that he's nailed down to such a science that it's hard to remember sometimes that he's still human. In this episode, I give some background on how he built up his outside shooting prowess to the level it's at today over the last couple decades.

In 2019, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow had arguably the most illustrious and accomplished seasons in college football history, winning every possible award you could possibly imagine and putting up numbers that were only thought to have existed in videogames. The craziest part of it all, though, is that Burrow came out of almost nowhere. In this episode, I dig into where Joe Burrow was before the national prominence, and how he was able to do what he did and the level he did it.

We all know DJ Khaled to be the boastful and confident executive who practically has the industry at his fingertips. Though "We The Best" sounds corny to many, his track record, veteran status, knowledge of the industry, and massive skillset in the production realm speak for themselves. In this episode, I give you the background on just how he climbed his way to the top, and what traits make him what he is.

Ye is one of the most commercially successful artists of all time, let alone just in the hip-hop genre. Masterfully blending his innovative style of production and his uncanny and poetic storytelling ability, he has put ten albums atop the Billboard charts and claimed legendary pedigree in the industry. In this episode, however, I detail how Ye may have always been on the other side of the recording booth.

IMG Academy, established in the late 70s as a tennis academy, has gone on to revolutionize the way high school sports are played at the elite and national level. With what seems like endless funding and a long list of professional and Olympian alumni, it's hard to imagine how any school could possibly outdo their resume. In this episode, I explore how it all came together and give an inside look at just what makes them so great.

Hwang Dong-hyuk's "Squid Game" is a sensation in every sense of the word. The show is thought to have produced nearly $900m in profits, the stars went from little to no following to millions of followers on social media, and the internet (on a global scale) can't stop raving about it.
