Tee Rogers with Dignity Memorial stopped by GRP Studios for the 91st Episode of the Check Your Six Podcast. Tee and I talked about something that most of us really don't want to discuss and that is the arrangements for our bodies once we have died. Most of us won't admit it but we all have an end date, death has a 100% success rate(except for 3, which is another discussion) so at some point plans need to be made. Tee helped explain some of the misconceptions that people have when they come to meet her as well as some of the veteran benefits that are available and how small business might be able to use this as a potential benefit.

Episode 90 of the Check Your Six, CY6 podcast had Jaysee Soto drop by GRP Studios for his podcast session and talk about his business, Altamonte Family Hearing. Yet another member of the Seminole Chamber and the current South Seminole Council Chair, that talked about starting his business just after cover shut everything down, his business plan, the challenges in his industry as well as new technology and helping me understand more of his business. This is obviously not your grandmothers hearing aids that we all remembered, some of you may actually remember the cones you used to hold up to your ears to hear, but it has come a long way baby!! He also talked about his choice to branch out on his own and how he ended up in the location he is currently using, One Senior Place on Douglas Ave in Altamonte Springs, which just seems to be the perfect spot!

Episode 89 of the Check Your Six podcast brought Army Veteran Brooks Collins with ESA Solar into the GRP Studios to talk about letting the sun shine in!! You would think that Florida being the "Sunshine State", solar energy would be a pretty big deal for the state but after talking with Brooks, we discovered that is not necessarily the case. Great information about the solar industry, some of the challenges that we have here in Florida, what to look for in a solar company, how the power companies "support" solar power and other various topics. Did get some insight on what to ask those solar companies that show up on our doorstep that "just happen to be in the neighborhood".

Episode 88 of the Check Your Six podcast brought Robert Brice into the GRP Studios to talk about a variety of things for small business, but mostly about marketing, branding and a discussion about what comes first, the branding or the marketing of a business. Sean Esler also help in the conversation by filling in for Craig this episode and brought some interesting conversation and observations of what he has seen with small business branding. Also looked at some of the key factors that Rob still uses since his graduation from UCF with his BA in Marketing!!

Episode 87 of the Check Your Six podcast had Justin Lerro with AVL Essentials stop by the GRP Studios to talk about AV stuff!! Justin has become a great resource for me and have had the pleasure of working on several projects over the past year and it looks like there will be more to come. We talked about how he got started in the business, his involvement with the Seminole Chamber, yes, it is another Chamber member in the studio, his plans for growth and the way he does business. Justin has been a great asset for GRP Studios, the way he approaches clients and the way he treats ALL of the people he works with is refreshing for a young man and I am looking forward to working with him for quite some time!!

Episode 86 of the Check Your Six podcast brought Army Veteran Ethel Harris into the GRP Studios to talk about the Boy Scouts of America. Ethel is the current District Executive, Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America and is bringing a fresh perspective into her role leading this organization. We talked about a lot of her passion, her background, why she chose the career she did in the Army, how she landed at the BSA and a variety of other topics. It really was a great insight into who she was and an honest view of her abilities, even though we had a lot of laughs at her "deployment" to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. As a young, African American woman, it might not be someone you would expect to be the leading the Central Florida Council, but she surprised me with how grounded she is in how she views herself and her capabilities. I have a feeling that grounding came from her Marine father and her mother and I can't wait to see what she does going forward.

The first episode of 2022 is a little bit different this year for the Check Your Six podcast. Craig was not in the studio for this podcast and may be out for a few episodes while he deals with the VA here in Central Florida. This was a recap of the second half of 2021 and the fantastic guests that we have had on the podcast. Both Craig and I have been honored to be a part of this for the past year and 1/2 and have learned a great deal from those that we have been honored to have in the studio. Going over some of the guests we had in the last 7 months of 2021 made me realize how fortunate we are to be here in Central Florida and have the freedom to do business on a fairly regular basis without some of the severe restrictions that come in other parts of the country. I am eternally grateful to all that have been a part of this journey as well as those that have helped guide me along the path we are taking. Here's looking at 2022!!

Episode 84 of the Check your Six Podcast brought a couple of guests into the GRP Studios, former FL State Representative Jimmie T Smith and Brian Fay, who are part of CVA, Concerned Veterans For America. Both of these gentlemen are Army veterans and are working through the process of accountability for the VA system and other programs that will not only help veterans but could overall impact other government programs. While the ideals that began with the Veterans Administration(VA) were honorable and with good intentions, what the VA has become is like most government operated programs and largely mismanaged and poorly run. Something that was designed to honor those that have served has become a monolith that moves with the speed of an iceberg at time and can cause almost more damage than it heals. They gave some very interesting information on a variety of topics, including the number of veterans that have committed suicide in the parking lots of some of the VA locations in Florida alone. The lack of accountability, inaccurate reporting and leadership that is more concerned about their own agenda than the welfare of the veterans it was designed to serve. There are a LOT of fantastic individuals that work for the VA including those providing the care for the patients, but very simply, it is broken and needs to be healed!!

Some minor technical issues made us push Episode 83 of the Check Your Six podcast back a bit, but were able to finally pull it together and get Daisy Ramirez into GRP Studios and record her session. Coming from a background in logistics, even though the degree was from THE Ohio State University, that experience has helped her turn it into a platform the helps connect businesses and individuals in a community. Daisy did a little self-taught application to learn coding and created something that she thinks can help connect local businesses with the local consumers looking for their products and services. Instead of going to the large box or online stores, Daisy is really looking to build the relationships and community by supporting your local business!!
