Science tells us that for a child to have the best life that it can, it’s essential that it has both biological parents in its everyday life. If you’re a person who thinks you don’t matter, you’re wrong. To a child born with your egg or your sperm, inside the woman whose egg it is, then you’re one of the two human beings of the 8 billion people on this planet, that matter to that child more than any other human being possibly can. No matter how much wealth those other people have, no matter how intellectually brilliant they are. No matter how wonderful the environment that they live in is. In the life of that child you are, without question, totally and utterly irreplaceable.

It turns out that the medical problems with getting a child through a surrogacy, begin with the petri dish when the lab is fertilising an egg for implantation into the surrogate’s womb, and the medical problems caused by this process may continue for the rest of the surrogate’s and child’s life. Using a third party surrogate means the child that is going to be implanted in that surrogate, is going to be robbed of one or both biological parents – if the process goes full term –resulting in a birth, that will be the beginning of a life, however long, which we know will be destructively damaging for that child in most cases.

Then there are more complications if a third party surrogate’s being used, you’re hiring her womb. Then you’re entering into a situation where the embryo is the equivalent for the surrogate, to having an organ transplant. A foreign body’s going to be inserted into her. That results in all sorts of things happening, including danger to the health of the surrogate, but I guess who cares as long as the prospective baby’s OK. Right? Let’s look at the issues that you might not think about.
