cypher-music

A recording from Bodytonic's Pogo club, from the Pod days. Simon and I DJed, alternating 1 hour each from start to finish... this is the opening hour from Simon

80 minutes of music from Moritz von Oswald, Mark Ernestus & their associated artists/labels; so lots of dubby techno, minimal masterpieces, with dashes of Detroit magic and lush vocals.

In a touch of serendipity, Resident Advisor have just published an article to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Basic Channel label (https://ra.co/features/3365)... this mix features some of those tracks from the parent label, along with plenty from the various sub labels.

After 15 years of running the cypher-music.net mix blog, I decided to close that corner of the internet and move some of my favourites to SoundCloud.

The second mix I'm archiving here comes from Richard Brophy (@first_cut); an excellent music journalist (DJ Mag, Jockey Slut, Juno Plus, RA and plenty more) and label boss (https://www.discogs.com/label/996537-First-Cut-2).

This was originally posted in January 2005, and still sounds slick.

For about 15 years I had a music blog for techno & electronica mixes from myself and other Irish-based DJs; the music was housed at cypher-music.net

I've been putting more of my own mixes on SoundCloud lately and thought I'd archive some of my favourites from the now ceased mix blog here.

Over the coming months I'll be adding mixes from Richard Brophy (https://soundcloud.com/first_cut), Eddie Reynolds aka Tr One (https://soundcloud.com/trone1234), Darren Allen (https://soundcloud.com/underlying_form), Giles Armstrong, (https://soundcloud.com/gilesarmstrong), Jon Hussey (https://soundcloud.com/jonhussey), Lerosa (https://soundcloud.com/lerosa-music) and more.

This is one of my own contributions, recorded in 2004; it's the only non vinyl mix I've ever made... the tracks are sourced from CDs, mp3, some of my own early productions and cassette rips, and stitched together in Sonic Foundry Acid.
