I have been a massive fan of Blue Öyster Cult https://soundcloud.com/blue-oyster-cult since the 70s, when a friend of a friend went all punk and was selling his Blue Öyster Cult albums. Talk about luck.
I enjoy all kinds of rock and metal, including punk, but when hair metal kicked in during the 80s I hated that shit and so in the 80s I kept listening to Blue Öyster Cult and "my" music...Hawkwind, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Genesis, ELO, ELP, Yes, Steve Hackett, King Crimson, Camel, Caravan, Moody Blues, Supertramp, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, Blondie, Ramones, The Cure, Santana, Rush, AC/DC, The Cult, ZZ Top, Gary Moore, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Big Country, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Kraftwerk, JMJ, Tonto's Expanding Head Band, Tangerine Dream, got into Metallica, and branched out into synth pop like Depeche Mode, OMD, Ultravox, Eurythmics, Human League, Yazoo. And there was plenty of standard rock in there too - Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney & Wings etc. Anything but hair metal, and disco, at the time.
And yet I liked glam rock - Bowie, Queen, Roxy Music, The Sweet, Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. Go figure...glam rock ok, hair metal...not ok?
Blue Öyster Cult is part of who I am. They shaped my rock and metal tastes within my broader musical tastes.
I love their hard rock dark fantasy shit, and when I die someone please play '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' from 'Extraterrestrial Live' at my funeral, followed by Godzilla, Black Blade, and Veteran Of The Psychic Wars. And just keep playing Blue Öyster Cult and more rock and metal...
This track is a tribute to Blue Öyster Cult. I'm not a good enough musician to do justice to a decent cover. Hence the title is not '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' (though you might have heard the famous riff in my tribute).
