Dad Band Land

Guitarist and movie producer Jim Rota (“Sonic Highways,” Fireball Ministry) to talk about his new movie, “Studio 666” and the album he cut for it with Dave Grohl. Then he sticks around for Jeffy’s Jukebox - “Great Albums with Terrible Covers.” And then we celebrate the anniversary of “Ziggy Stardust.” Yes, this ep is jam-packed, and packed with jams.

We’re back in the studio and ready to take on the big questions! Like: How did the guitar take over rock n’ roll? And will the keyboard ever regain its rightful place? And will Kevin ever make good on his threat to get Adam a keytar? Also, we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Heart’s “Little Queen” and discover that it’s REALLY worth celebrating.

Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced” is definitely Dad-aged now. How’s it holding up? Also, whose post-band solo careers went best? And if Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel were BOTH stuck on different trolley tracks and your trolley was out of control… A moral-dilemma-laced episode!

It’s a salty and spicy episode as we discuss our favorite artists’ hits that we SHOULD love but don’t, and then we dive into all that sweet, pastel-colored 80s sexiness that is Duran Duran’s “Rio.” Also, Adam and Kevin dissect playing “Help,” which is a pretty good metaphor for the state of their band.

It turns out that our little joke about Ninja Sex Party’s silent member being our guest… did not thrill Ninja Brian himself. He comes to kill us, but then stays for the on-point musical banter! Also, we play the most overplayed Rolling Stones hit and then revisit Wilco’s 20 year-old (!) “Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.”

Toto, we’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore! The boys take an unexpectedly weird and emotional journey listening to “Toto IV.” And a much less weird journey playing “Blitzkrieg Bop.” And a completely entertaining journey discussing the best title tracks ever!
