"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him." That's the message from this episode's scripture reading, which is from the Gospel of John. You can follow along at https://www.oca.org/readings (for Tuesday, May 5, 2020).
Dave also talks about an April 26, 2020 Facebook post he saw that discusses how some of us dads are "Sunday Jerks." The message behind this is that we allow the pressures of life and our jobs to bleed over into our relationships with our families. Make sure to check out the Dads of Orthodoxy Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dadsoforthodoxy/. Also, we pray to our patron saints using a prayer found at https://www.orthodoxprayer.org/OtherPrayers.html.

Sam discusses what it was like to decide to become Orthodox while filming the documentary at the monastery, plus his insight on how men can die to self like the monks do. Also, Sam tells Dave what his favorite line in the entire documentary is, so you don't want to miss that. Learn more about Sam at https://samwcox.com/.

Dave reads from John 5:30-6:2 where Jesus says, "I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth."

Rashawn Copeland joins Dave on the show to discuss how we need to live out our belief in God and the Christian faith. Oftentimes, we profess what we believe, but we don't live it out other than on Sunday. Also, Rashawn fills us in on the details of his book, Start Where You Are: How God Meets You in Your Mess, Loves You through It, and Leads You Out of It, which is set to debut in September 2020. Pre-order your copy at https://amzn.to/2VFR9I4.
Dave also reads John 2:1-11 where Jesus performs the miracle of turning water into wine at the wedding feast in Cana. He gives some insight on how we can live out the Mother of God's directive to listen to Jesus when she says, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” Check out the readings for April 27, 2020 at https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2020/04/27/2.

Have you ever noticed how devoted your wife is to your children? She goes about her day (either as a stay-at-home mother or working mother) and tirelessly gives to you and the children. If she stays at home, she tends to the kids just about 24/7. If she works outside the home, she likely works 8+ hours and then comes home-- and then takes care of the kids and housework. Moms just keep going because they know it's needed.
We need to support that as their husbands, which I discussed in episode 18 (https://bit.ly/dd-18). But, perhaps more importantly, we need to support their time with God. That's the message from today's episode. Check out the article, "The Role of the Mother in Raising Children," mentioned at https://saintkosmas.com/st-paisios-the-role-of-the-mother-in-raising-children as well as the "Theotokos of the Life-giving Spring" article from https://www.goarch.org/chapel/saints?contentid=850&type=saints. "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" That's the message from Jesus in Matthew 6:27 NIV.
We are so consumed by worry and anxiety that we lose sight of what God does and who He is. Dave reads selections from Marcus Geromes' piece, "Anxiety and Our Life in Christ," and discusses a conversation he and an neighbor had about worry and Matthew 6.
Also, listen to the Bright Thursday readings from the Wisdom of Solomon (https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2020/04/23/2). You can read Geromes' article (featured on The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America's website) at https://www.goarch.org/-/anxiety-and-our-life-in-christ.
