In China, we call this kind of green pea Dutch pea. But did you know? In the Netherlands,people call it Chinese pea. The pea comes from neither the Netherlands nor China. It was first grown in Southern Asia. In the 1600s，businessmen from the Netherlands brought it to China. So, Chinese people called it the Dutch pea. Then, Chinese people bagan to grow the peas and sold lots of them to the Netherlands. That’s why people in the Netherlands call it the Chinese pea.

Day - 19 Try a classic exercise

Do you do any exercise between classes? During the Northern Song Dynasty, people enjoyed doing an exercise called baduanjin(八段锦). It has eight simple movements, such as slowly opening the arms or raising the head. It looks like tai chi. The Northern Song people believed these movements were good for both the body and mind. Today, this old exercise has become popular again. Would you like to give it a try?

Many people have cats at home. How did you get your cat? In the Song Dynasty, bringing a cat home was a big thing. The Song people liked cats very much. When they bought a cat, they often sent a bag of salt to the cat’s owner. The gift showed their thanks. If they got a stray cat, they sent some fish to the mother cat. Some people even sent “offer letters” to their cats. In the “letters”, they asked the cats to catch more mice. And in return, they would give the cats tasty fish.
