Worship has resumed but there is no security because the walls are in ruins. Nehemiah is burdened over this and God gives him the ability to rally the people to the work and to repentance. In the Old Covenant, God’s people needed walls of stone because their hearts were still being trained. In the New Covenant, God puts His Spirit in us and gives us Christ as our refuge. We no longer need walls to keep others out. We need Christ to hold us together.
