March 6, 2023 - End Exodus, Begin Leviticus, Mark Continued

Jesus causes issues for the religious leaders while teaching and healing many; God gives Moses specific instructions for how to build the Tabernacle and how to obey Him.

Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt and encounters numerous difficulties, including an increasingly dissatisfied people; Jesus is captured, crucified, buried, and resurrected (end Matthew); Jesus is baptized by John the Baptist, recruits the first disciples, and begins his ministry of teaching, healing, and casting out demons (Mark). 

Job learns not to challenge Gob, God calls Moses to lead the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt, and Jesus is handed over to the priests and religious leaders.

Job and his friends continue their back and forth; Jesus arrives in Jerusalem.

We finish Genesis with the Joseph story and pivot to Job, and Jesus continues his ministry in Matthew.

In week three we continue to follow Jesus' early ministry in Matthew, including the feeding of the 5000+ and several parables that I love. In Genesis we continue Jacob's story, including being named Israel and Joseph's descent into and rise from Egyptian slavery.

Genesis continues with the first war, Abram's son Ishmael born to Hagar, his name changed to Abraham and Sarai's to Sarah, Sarah's birth of Isaac when she was 90, through Saran and Abraham's deaths, the birth of Esau and Jacob, and Jacob stealing Esau's birthright and Blessing. In Matthew Jesus assembles the 12 disciples, teaches how to pray, heals many, preaches over a large region, and reveals to the disciples of John the Baptist that it is He that John preached about.

I start the year with a new reading plan, the Bible in One Year with Nicky Gumbel, and am reading a different translation, NLT. Each week there are OT and NT readings as well as Psalms and/or Proverbs. Genesis 1-16: the creation of everything, the realization of good and evil, the turn to evil that results in the judgement by flood, and genealogy to Abram;  Matthew 1-6:24: Jesus' lineage and birth, the temptation, the baptism, the beginning of the ministry, the recruiting of the first disciples; and Psalms 1-6 and Proverbs 1:1-7.
