It might be tempting to hitch your wagon to the latest trend, but don't let it consume you. Externalizing your identity means you loses control over that identity. That can be damaging for your self image and your career.

I participated in the Tech Field Day Extra event with Scality and HPE today. Scality announced their new product called Artesca, which is a cloud-native, light-weight object store. The sales motion of selling DevOps tooling to an enterprise crowd got me thinking.

Taking the long view on technology, we tend to commoditize, standardize, and abstract away complexity. I don't need to know how a car works to drive, how electricity works to turn on a light, or how to operate a web server to have a website. Why on earth would I need to know how Kubernetes works to run my application?
