I kind of feel bad reading about Ananias and Sapphira, I can, unfortunately, relate to them on some level. It's easy to throw them under the bus.

Acts 5:1-5

"Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.

Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”

When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died..."

Reading through some of the things that the first century church did still astounds me even though I have read these verses for years (more than a decade).

Acts 4:32

I just got that "I'm in big trouble" feeling while reading Chapter 4 of Acts! Peter and John were super close to being in jail for a significant time.

Acts 4:18

"Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus."

I think we all have something to learn from these 2 men. The fire and passion for Jesus and telling others about what they experienced!

I think it is our natural tendency to assume our own innocence in most matters. There are times when you realize that you were at fault, this passage reveals to me one of those times.

Acts 3:15

"You killed the author of life..."

Peter tells the Jews around him that they made a big mistake! Jesus was whom He said He was, and His resurrection proved it. It can be easy to get mad at them, but in reality, sin is what killed Jesus...my sin.

Listen, you need to be careful what you put on the internet. Anything can go far and fast. After it is posted to the world there is no taking it back, it will be there forever!

Peter used his opportunity, everybody was around during the Pentecost, to share the message.

Acts 2:14

"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say..."

Peter used his platform, are we using ours? We all can record our testimony or share our faith in our own unique way by simply recording ourselves without any interruptions. Spread the good news in a new and highly impactful platform.

Can you think of anything that brings more anticipation than a baby? You never know when the baby is coming! Sure they give you a due date but that is rarely the day when the baby comes.

Jesus tells His disciples that he will return. They then proceed to live a life where they live in anticipation.

Acts 1:10-11

"They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Whether they were standing in awe of what just took place or if they were standing there waiting for His return, they lived their life in anticipation afterward. Every day they sought out what God would have them do.

Peter cannot wait when he recognizes Jesus! He drops what he is doing and pursues Jesus. How busy are we in our life? Are we willing to drop everything to pursue Him when we recognize Him?

John 21:7

"Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. "

May we embody this excitement living a life that is not too busy to immediately stop and pursue God.

After reading about Mary in chapter 20 of John, it hit me that I may have had several Mary moments in my life where God was right there in front of me and I didn't recognize Him.

John 20:14

"At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus."

May we stop and be more aware of what God may be doing in our lives, through the good and through the bad.
