Non-Fungible Fungibility

Charlie Lee says he is a big fan of Monero. Primarily because it contains two features not available on Bitcoin nor Litecoin. If you guessed privacy and fungibility for those two features, you would be correct. But hold on, I thought Bitcoin is fungible? One satoshi equals one satoshi and one bitcoin will always be one bitcoin. Thus it’s fungible right? (Record scratch then start music from beginning) Not exactly. Every Bitcoin transaction can be tracked on the blockchain. If it is found that a certain wallet contains Bitcoins used in fraudulent schemes or any behavior deemed by governments and organizations to be illicit, they can effectively censor those Bitcoins. The censored Bitcoins would have less value to the market creating classes of different Bitcoin, thus no longer fungible. Coins that get around that censorship with privacy features maintain fungibility.
