What do you do when life doesn't make sense—and God doesn't answer the way you expected?

Chapter 11 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “Trading My Sorrows,” is one of the most personal and vulnerable chapters in the book.

After more than forty years of walking with Yeshua, I have discovered that faith does not spare us from grief, disappointment, unanswered questions, betrayal, or painful loss. There have been seasons when my health faltered, finances disappeared, ministry became painfully difficult, and doors I believed God had opened suddenly closed.

There were moments when I asked:

“Father, where are You?”

“Why did You allow this?”

“Have You forgotten me?”

Those questions are not necessarily evidence that we have abandoned God. Sometimes they come from hearts desperately trying to trust Him when we cannot understand what He is doing.

In this chapter, I share some of the painful seasons of my own journey and one truth I can now declare:

God never abandoned me.

Not once.

The sorrow itself was never the gift, but the Father never wasted a single tear. Some of the hardest chapters of my life became the places where I learned to know Him most intimately.

The Psalms taught me that faith is not pretending to be strong. David brought his fear, confusion, disappointment, anger, grief, repentance, and longing honestly before God. That honesty became a doorway to healing.

Out of those lessons eventually came The Letter of Hope, a message the Holy Spirit has used to bring hope to thousands, call prodigals home, and help people standing on the edge of suicide choose life. It became another reminder that God can transform our deepest sorrows into hope for someone else.

Isaiah describes this beautiful exchange:

Beauty instead of ashes.

Joy instead of mourning.

Praise instead of despair.

Isaiah 61:3

Trading your sorrows doesn't mean pretending the pain never happened. It means placing it into the hands of the One who knows you completely.

If you are walking through a season you don't understand, I pray this chapter reminds you: your story isn't finished, and the Father has not abandoned you.

What if walking with God was never meant to be limited to a quiet time, a church meeting, or what we call a “spiritual” moment?

In Chapter 10 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “Living From His Presence,” I share one of the truths that has shaped more than four decades of my journey with Yeshua:

Every part of life belongs to Him.

When Messiah dwells within us through the Holy Spirit, there is no longer a sacred part of life and a secular part. Our conversations, decisions, responsibilities, relationships, work, ministry, and ordinary moments can all become places where we experience His presence.

Yeshua said:

Over the years, I stopped expecting the Holy Spirit to remain behind when my quiet time ended. The conversation simply continued throughout the day. He would bring Scripture to mind, prompt me to encourage someone, correct my attitude, redirect my thinking, or prepare me for something I couldn't yet see.

That is what abiding in Yeshua has come to mean to me.

It isn't another activity to fit into a busy schedule.

It is a way of living.

The ordinary moments become holy ground when we recognize that He is already there.

His invitation has always been simple: walk with Me - every moment of every day.

What happens when something we are building for God quietly becomes more important than walking with God?

In Chapter 9 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “It’s Not Your Money I Want. It’s YOU!”, I share one of the most dramatic and life-changing seasons of my journey.

My businesses were growing rapidly. Contracts were increasing, and I genuinely believed that greater business success would provide greater resources to advance the Kingdom of God. The vision wasn't wrong - but somewhere along the way, the vision began to consume me.

At the same time, Hayley believed the Holy Spirit had warned her that someone I deeply trusted within the company was stealing from us. What followed became an extraordinary lesson in hearing God's voice, trusting the Holy Spirit, obedience, protection, surrender, and the faithfulness of the Father.

But the greatest lesson wasn't about business or money.

One day while I was praying, the Holy Spirit spoke quietly to my heart:

“Kenny…

It’s not your money I want.

It’s you.”

Suddenly I understood. God had never measured my faithfulness by the size of my business, the contracts we secured, or how much money I could give away. He wasn't looking for a successful businessman who happened to love Yeshua. He wanted His son.

That revelation changed the direction of my life.

The Kingdom of God is never built by replacing intimacy with activity.

The Father’s greatest desire isn't simply what we can accomplish for Him. He wants us to know Him, walk with Him, and trust Him completely.

The believer’s life was never designed to be lived alone.

In Chapter 8 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “Daily Dependence on the Holy Spirit,” I share how I discovered that following Yeshua was never meant to depend upon my own strength, discipline, or ability. The Holy Spirit came not as an occasional visitor, but to make His home within us - to be our Teacher, Counselor, Comforter, Guide, and constant Companion.

This chapter also explores how prayer becomes relationship rather than religious duty. As a young believer, prayer became an ongoing conversation with my Heavenly Father—in my morning Bible reading, at school, working, running, or simply going about everyday life.

One question has become especially important to me:

Not, “How much time did I spend praying today?”

But, “How aware was I of His presence today?”

One measures performance. The other measures relationship.

Through more than forty years of walking with Yeshua, I have learned that dependence is not weakness. It is where faith grows. Sometimes the Father doesn't immediately change our circumstances; He changes us as we learn to trust Him within them.

Prayer has never simply been about receiving answers.

It has been about discovering the heart of the One who answers.

My prayer is that this chapter encourages you to stop carrying what the Holy Spirit never asked you to carry alone and rediscover the simplicity of daily dependence upon Him.

Learning to hear His voice is only the beginning. The real adventure begins when we trust Him enough to follow.

In Chapter 7 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “Walking With the Shepherd,” I share what I have learned about developing a daily relationship with Yeshua, not by mastering a spiritual technique, but by remaining close to the Shepherd.

Sheep don't learn their shepherd's voice in a single day. They learn it by walking with him. In the same way, we grow through time in His Word, honest prayer, quietness before Him, obedience, and learning to trust His presence, even in seasons when His voice seems quiet.

And when we stumble, the Shepherd doesn't abandon us.

He pursues us.

He restores us.

He calls us by name.

He brings us home.

Perhaps you feel as though you have wandered far from God. His invitation remains the same: Come back. The Shepherd is still calling your name.

The goal isn't simply to hear His voice. The goal is to know Him - and to trust Him enough to follow wherever He leads.

Does God still speak to His people today, and how do we learn to recognize His voice?

In Chapter 6 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “Learning to Hear His Voice,” I share how, as a young believer, I discovered that the God who had rescued me wasn't distant or silent. He wanted a relationship with me, and that relationship included learning to listen.

Yeshua said:

“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27

Hearing God's voice isn't reserved for a select group of spiritually gifted people. We learn to recognize the Shepherd through relationship, spending time in His presence, remaining rooted in His Word, listening to the Holy Spirit, and responding in obedience.

The goal isn't simply to hear His voice. The goal is to know Him.

Whether you feel close to God today or as though you've wandered far away, the Good Shepherd is still calling. His voice has not grown silent.

What does it really mean to say, “Christ lives in me”?

In Chapter 5 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, I continue sharing my personal journey of discovering that following Yeshua is far more than believing the right things, attending meetings, or trying harder to live a Christian life.

There is a deeper reality: Messiah in you.

This revelation began to change the way I understood my identity, my relationship with God, and the purpose of my life. The life of faith was never supposed to be about me attempting to become good enough for God. It was about surrendering my old life and allowing the life of Yeshua to be expressed through me.

The Christian life isn't simply living for Yeshua.

It is learning to allow Yeshua to live through you.

What happens after you give your life to Yeshua?

How do you live this new life - and what happens when you feel as though you are not strong enough?

In Chapter 4 of I Am a Witness – The Search Is Over, “The Helper Has Come,” I continue my story from the morning after I gave my life to Yeshua as an eleven-year-old boy on the Isle of Arran, Scotland.

I had gone to sleep one person and awakened another. The emptiness was gone. The anger that had controlled so much of my young life had lost its grip. I couldn't explain what had happened theologically; I simply knew that Yeshua was real because I had met Him.

But salvation raised a whole new set of questions:

What happens now?

How do I live this new life?

What if I fail?

This chapter explores one of the greatest discoveries we can make as followers of Yeshua:

Help is not on the way. Help has already arrived.

Yeshua promised that the Father would give us another Helper, the Spirit of Truth. God never intended us to struggle through the believer's life depending upon our own strength. Through the Holy Spirit, He comes to live within us, teach us, strengthen us, correct us, comfort us, and lead us one step at a time.

I also share how I began learning this in practical, everyday life. The Holy Spirit wasn't only present in church meetings or moments we might call “spiritual.” He was interested in my work, my mistakes, my decisions, and the situations that seemed beyond my ability. I began discovering that spiritual growth isn't about striving harder; it is about staying closer.

And something else began happening.

People could see that I had changed.

The angry, rebellious boy who wanted nothing to do with God suddenly couldn't stop talking about Yeshua. I didn't have Bible-college training, polished sermons, or all the answers. I had a testimony. My transformed life was becoming a witness to the transforming power of Yeshua.

More than four decades later, the lesson remains the same:

You were never created to struggle through this life alone.

You were created to walk with God.

My prayer is that as you listen to Chapter 4, you will stop trying to carry your faith in your own strength and discover afresh the presence of the One Yeshua promised would be with you.

The Helper has come.
