1. More flight cuts could be coming. Today, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said if the government shutdown continues, we could be looking at a 15 percent reduction in domestic flights. He initially said, the Federal Aviation Administration was looking at a 10 percent reduction overall. Four percent of flights at 40 major airports were cut for today. As we've been reporting this week, Milwaukee’s airport was not targeted for these flight reductions, but that doesn't mean passengers flying in and out of Mitchell aren't impacted. Duffy says air traffic controllers calling out sick made the flight reductions necessary. They haven't been paid since the government shutdown started 38 days ago.
2. The confirmed death toll from the UPS plane crash in Louisville is 13 people, with 9 people still unaccounted for. The mission has shifted from rescue to recovery as authorities do not expect to find any more survivors at the crash site. UPS is confirming the deaths of the three-person crew aboard the aircraft that crashed shortly after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday evening.
3. There's a secret meeting of the Supreme Court today. The nine justices are meeting behind closed doors to discuss whether to take certain cases. One of them is a highly watched case involving same-sex marriage. This is considered a longshot. The justices have repeatedly signaled little appetite for re-opening the landmark decision.
