Be in the driver's seat

 To be in the driver’s seat means to be in control of a situation — to be the one making decisions.

Examples:

1- At work, he used to wait for instructions.
 But once he understood his role better, he felt in the driver’s seat and started making confident decisions.

2- She had always followed other people’s plans.
When she finally said what she wanted, she felt like she was in the driver’s seat of her own life.

To start with 

 We use “to start with” to talk about how something was at the beginning — before it changed. It helps the listener understand the starting point of a situation. Very often, what comes after is different. Let’s look at this pattern:

Examples:

1- To start with, I didn’t understand the instructions, but after a few tries, everything became clearer.

2- To start with, she wasn’t sure she wanted to join, but after listening for a while, she changed her mind.

Believe it or not

is used when we say something surprising, unexpected, or hard to imagine.
 It’s a way of saying: this may sound strange, but it’s true.

Examples:

1- Believe it or not, the system crashed right when I was about to submit the work I had spent all morning on.

2- Let’s listen to some examples: She thought she needed hours of free time to practice. But believe it or not, ten minutes a day made a real difference.

Get back on track

means to return to a plan, habit, or direction after a pause or a setback. It doesn’t mean starting perfectly. It just means starting again.

Examples:

1- He was saving money carefully, but then a few unplanned expenses appeared. Instead of giving up, he looked at his budget and said, “Alright. Let’s get back on track.”

2- She skipped the gym for a while — not because she didn’t care, but because she felt overwhelmed. One walk, one small step, and she smiled, “I’m getting back on track.”

Fall off the wagon

 means to stop doing something you were committed to — a habit, a routine, or a goal — usually without planning to, and often temporarily. 

Examples:

1- He was eating healthier and feeling better. Then came a stressful week, late nights, quick meals. Looking back, he thought, “Yeah… I fell off the wagon for a bit.”

2- He promised himself he’d stop checking his phone before bed. Three nights later, he was scrolling again.

That's on me 

When we say “that’s on me,” we mean: I take responsibility. It’s a calm, grown-up way to admit a mistake — without excuses, drama, or self-blame. It simply means: I own my part.

Examples:

1- He gave unclear instructions, and the task went wrong. Instead of blaming anyone else, he said, “That’s on me — I should’ve explained it better.”

2- She reread the message she had sent. She realized the confusion wasn’t intentional — but it was avoidable. She took a breath and said, “Sorry… that’s on me.”

Fair enough

 means I accept what you’re saying. Not necessarily because you fully agree —
but because you see the reason behind it. It’s a calm way to show understanding, balance, and maturity.

Examples:

1- He said he needed more time before making a decision. She wanted an answer right away, but she paused and replied, “Fair enough.”

2- She wanted things done one way. Her colleague suggested another approach. After thinking about it for a moment, she said, “Fair enough — let’s try it.”
