June 22, 2021Daily Flow - Turn off the tap!Water flow is often used as a metaphor for flow in knowledge work. John often uses the expression "turn off the tap" (incoming work). Is he going crazy?--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more11minPlay
June 22, 2021Daily Flow - is the application of Scrum as per the Scrum Guide too prescriptive? Is the application of Scrum as per the Scrum Guide too prescriptive? Is the Scrum Guide used as a set of laws you need to adhere here to? Should the Scrum Guide rather be treated as a guide that gives the team a starting point but encourages the team to inspect and adapt the framework to better their outcomes? June 16, 2021Daily Flow - sterility, agilityFor some, sterile is a good thing; it means safe and clean. For others, it's kind of lacking in fun. Kanban practitioners can often forget the human side; virtually beating people over the head with work item aging charts, and in doing so they "lose the dressing room".--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more11minPlay
June 15, 2021Daily Flow - work item types and SLEs in KanbanWork Item types are optional in Kanban Guide as per https://kanbanguides.org. In Kanban Guide, a Service Level Expectation (SLE) is a must for a Kanban board. How about having an SLE per work item type? What could be the upsides and downsides of that?--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more11minPlay
June 15, 2021Daily Flow - how to handle UX/discovery on a Kanban Board?User experience research (UX) when done in the same team as delivery is a nice way to go. User Interface(UI) work is only a subset for UX. If your UX folks are only producing UI widgets, someone has "lost the plot". Check out Giff Constable's Truth Curve at https://giffconstable.com/2013/06/the... . "Dual-track agile" is about blending discovery and delivery and lots of collaboration and understanding of each other. Check out David Denham's article at https://medium.com/@daviddenham07/dua... . But how does UX/discovery work on a Kanban Board? Work items should not move right to left; there are only two exceptional cases where that is valid. After all, UX is never finished, and learning is the 1st citizen.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more18minPlay

June 11, 2021Daily Flow - if you don't know where you're going, you'll end up somewhere else (Yogi Berra)What is the direction of travel? Is it the same as a vision? What is a product goal? What is a sprint goal?--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more9minPlay
June 08, 2021Daily Flow - what's the smallest thing you can change?Continuous improvement is central to agility. People often feel overwhelmed about retrospective improvements. How about making peace with what we can actually do? How might we improve gradually without it hurting so much? How might we reduce guilt?--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message...more11minPlay
June 05, 2021Daily Flow - your capacity is your throughputCapacity is a subjective thing. Effort estimation is more useful when we're not dependent on others because in that case, we would have less waiting time. As long as our work items are not elephant-sized, can we just use throughput to specify our capacity? To get a question featured in a daily flow live stream/podcast, please leave a voicemail at https://anchor.fm/dailyflow/message or Whatsapp +44 7908 539 437.
