At a tea for officers and their wives, the commanding general of a base delivered a seemingly endless oration. A young lieutenant grumbled to the woman sitting beside him, “What a pompous and unbearable old windbag that slob is!”

The woman turned to him, her face red with rage. “Excuse me, Lieutenant. Do you have any idea who I am?”

“No ma’am,” the man fumbled.

“I am the wife of the man you just called an unbearable old windbag.”

“Oh,” said the lieutenant. “And do you have any idea who I am?”

“No,” said the general’s wife.

“Good” said the lieutenant, getting up from his seat and disappearing into the crowd.

One of the greatest assets in a home is a godly wife and mother.  Her life becomes a living witness to all that are in the home.

If you find yourself as the only Christian in your home, live your faith sincerely so that others would see and trust in Christ as well.

The story is told about a barber who had just been saved in an old-fashioned revival meeting. The next morning at work he wanted to share his new faith and witness to the lost.

A customer came in, and the barber began to lather him up for a shave. Finally as he stood with his razor poised over the man’s throat he asked, “Are you prepared to meet God?”

While we may chuckle at this story, it reveals that every new believer has a desire to share the good news of salvation with others!

Greater than the cure for cancer, God has provided the cure for sin! One will take your life on earth, but sin will curse your life for eternity. Turn to Christ by faith and become a new believer today!

If you have ever been a parent, you know the struggles that come with raising children. Some days, it seems easy, fun, and exciting to be a parent. This typically coincides with those moments that your child demonstrates kindness to their siblings and they obey with a joyful spirit. 

But then, there are those other days… and you don’t know what to think. 

Yet, in those blissful moments of parenting, your heart wants to leap for joy and bless your children for their obedience.

In the same way, our heavenly Father is also blessed when we show a Christ-like spirit and love for others. It was Christ that said the greatest commandment is to love God, but the way we demonstrate our love to God is seen in the way we treat those around us.

May we choose to walk obediently with God by loving those around us.

Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit thy way unto the Lord” The word commit means “to roll over.” It is to take our desires and direction for this life and to roll them over onto the Lord.

Yet, this requires us to wait on the Lord.

Someone once said "God's best gifts come slowly. …Even such a confident worker grows discouraged at times and worries because results do not come as rapidly as he would desire. But growth and strength in waiting are results often greater than the end so impatiently longed for." 

God wants us to see results as we work for Him, but His first concern is our growth. As we start this new year, let us choose to commit our way and our clock to the Lord.

Happy New Year! Have you considered the weight of that statement? It’s a desire that God would bless another person’s new year.

If you do a simple study of joy or happiness in the Bible, you will find a consistent thread to those that are happy find that their source of joy is the Lord. God brings us the greatest joy and happiness in this life.

There are numerous examples of those that knew God’s joy, happiness, and peace.

• Nehemiah, a great builder and servant of God said, “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).

• In a low place in David’s life the Bible shared that he “...encouraged himself in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6).

George Muller said, “The first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day is to have my soul happy in the Lord.”

As we begin a brand new year, may we be willing to “rejoice in the Lord alway, again I saw rejoice””

As John was closing out his gospel, He said, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written” (John 21:25). 

Jesus’ influence while He was on this earth is far greater than we could ever imagine and it continues to be far reaching today! 

When Luke wrote to Theophilis in Acts 1 he opened with, “...of all that Jesus began both to do and teach...” 

Acts was just the beginning. The story of Christ’s impact continues even today and into the years ahead.

The good news is that His story is still not done. He is still writing His story through our lives. When we let Christ have control of our life and surrender to His will, we find that His great work and wonders will continue today!

Surrender to Him this new year and let God write His story through your life.

Who would have ever thought that preaching the gospel in a Christian nation could land a person in jail? Yet, for 12 years Pastor John Bunyan was imprisoned for this simple crime. 

It was during that time of imprisonment that God used him to write, “The Pilgrim’s Progress,” which speaks of the trials a Christian must endure. Yet, because of his time in prison, Pastor Bunyan had time to write and encourage the hearts of Christians for generations.

Although Pastor Bunyan received great persecution and suffering, he discovered that God has a purpose in the midst of our pain.

If you are in a season of suffering, I urge you to look up. See that through this loss, pain, or trial God preparing you for something extraordinary ahead. 

Remember: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart!”

It is not uncommon for us to be consumed with results.

• Are the Chiefs going to make the Playoffs? 

• How many people attended church?

• How many people were saved last year? 

We often become results driven because we have a natural born desire to do things well. Yet, the quest to see results can blur what matters most.  

As a Christian, God says one of the most important things is to be faithful. One example of faithfulness in the New Testament was Silas. Peter called him “a faithful brother.” Silas was found faithful because he never got his eyes off the Saviour. A faithful heart looks for ways to walk with God.

As we come into the New year, ask yourself, “What Can I do to be more faithful?” Choose to take steps to create a life that is faithful to God.

Everything about the birth and life of Jesus pointed to the truth that He was the Lamb of God. John the Baptist said it right when he boldly stated, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Even from the womb, John knew that this child was the eternal Son of God. Luke records of John, “…the babe leaped in her womb.” John knew that Jesus was more than a carpenter, so He proclaimed to the world that Jesus would be God’s Lamb to take away sins.

So when we look at the babe in the manger, we are not looking at just another child. We see the Son of God. The Angel said, “…thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”

Remember that Jesus came as the Saviour of the World. As God, he alone was worthy to take away our sins. So, let us heed the words of the Psalmist, “O come, let us worship and bow down: Let us knee before the Lord our maker.”

Merry Christmas! Today is more than just another day, it is the day we celebrate the birth of the Messiah, Jesus Christ! It was the day that God became man so that He could offer salvation from our sins.

That night, the angel announced to the shepherds, “I bring you good tidings of great joy...For unto you is born...a Saviour!”

Someone once said,

“If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator; 

 If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist; 

 If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist; 

 If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer; 

 But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.”

Today, all around the world pause and give praise to God because He gave us salvation through His Son. Merry Christmas!
