When we're in love, we come alive with the life that flows to us through the body. This is why we do not fast when the Bridegroom is with us. If we do fall away from love, a touch of the body - just one kiss - can restore us. This is why fasting is described today, by Isaiah, as a corporal work of mercy. Fasting, to Isaiah, is really "returning to love."
