Callamard stressed that genocide is determined by intent and actions, not just the number of victims, and reiterated Amnesty’s stance that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. Israel has been conducting a major military assault on the occupied West Bank for a second week now - and Jenin has been the focal point. At least 27 Palestinians have been killed so far. Jenin resident Ahmed Tobasi has told Al Jazeera that the Israeli army has been destroying houses and demolishing roads since the start of its large-scale military assault nearly two weeks ago. “For sure now, we see that most of the houses in Jenin camp are not really livable any more,” he said. The Israeli army claimed in a statement that the structures it blew up today “were used as terrorist infrastructure”.
