At least seven Palestinians have been killed and dozens wounded in an Israeli army raid on Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. Israeli military vehicles were seen raiding the refugee camp after an air strike on a car. The army and Shin Bet have confirmed they are carrying out an operation in Jenin. Israeli settlers have carried out more attacks on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Witnesses say dozens set on fire Palestinian home and businesses in the towns of Fandaq and Jinsafut, east of Qalqilya. The Palestinian Red Crescent says 12 people were injured. In the past 15 months, settlers have intensified campaigns of violence while under the protection of the Israeli army. The Israeli army has detained 64 Palestinians including children, in a raid on the city of Qalqilya. The arrests come a day after 90 Palestinian prisoners and three Israeli captives were released under the ceasefire deal, that's halted 15 months of war on Gaza.

At least 66 people have died in a fire at a popular ski resort in Turkiye. Panicked guests have jumped to their deaths as it was engulfed in flames. It's happened in Kartalkaya, which is in the Koroglu Mountains in the northwest. The blaze engulfed a 12-storey hotel with wooden cladding. At least 51 people have been injured, some in a critical condition. The fire started in the kitchen of the hotel - which backs onto a cliff, making it a difficult for firefighters to get to.

President Trump is inheriting several foreign policy crises - including the war in Ukraine. He said President Vladimir Putin is destroying Russia by not reaching a deal to end the war. Leaders in Moscow and Kyiv would have closely watched his comments about a deal to end the conflict.

China's Foreign Ministry has been reacting to President Trump's policies. On trade, Beijing says it is willing to “strengthen dialogue and communication” and wants to work towards “stable, healthy and sustainable development” of economic relations with the US.
David Mahon, a Beijing-based political economist, says the realists within China’s government reject the “transactional” label given to Trump because of his murky business dealings in the past and view his leadership as “very unpredictable”.

No one can guarantee Trump’s commitment to the Gaza ceasefire, according to Yossi Mekelberg, an analyst at Chatham House in London, UK. “No one can guarantee … whether Trump is as committed to do all three phases [of the ceasefire] as much as he’s committed … to see the first phase … with the theatre of it,” Mekelberg told us. “I think we don’t expect to see a coherent and linear line with Trump, [but] there are some promising lines … when he talks about dialogue.” His reversal of sanctions on violent Israeli settlers, meanwhile, is “not a sign towards encouraging the peace”, the analyst said. Still, the focus should be on rebuilding Gaza and ensuring the warring sides don’t violate the ceasefire, Mekelberg said. “It’s not only about rebuilding it physically but also psychologically. People went through a huge trauma. It’s about governance, it’s about the political solution.”

Gaza has received a significant influx of humanitarian supplies. On the first day of the ceasefire, over 630 aid trucks entered the enclave, with about 300 going to northern regions. Yesterday, the number of aid trucks increased to 915, carrying essential food, water, and medication. Today, even more aid trucks are expected. The aid will be distributed at humanitarian centres across Gaza. However, this remains insufficient to meet the immense needs of Gaza’s population.

His inauguration took place in the Capitol Rotunda -- moved indoors for the first time in 40 years because of intense cold weather. Trump's the first president to have invited foreign leaders to his inauguration. He's returning to the Oval Office backed by a House and Senate under Republican control. And has promised sweeping executive orders on day one to undo Biden policies and push forward his promises.

Donald Trump's threats and assertions in the weeks before his second term in office as the US President is causing concern globally. Trump's promising to crack down on immigration, unleash tariffs on allies and even take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.
