Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Sunday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran does not seek to expand its conflict with Israel to neighbouring countries unless forced. He described Iran’s military response as defensive. As Israeli air raids continued, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s opposition to nuclear weapons but defended its right to peaceful nuclear development. He said Iran had been ready to offer assurances in the now-cancelled sixth round of US talks, which could have led to an agreement. Araghchi also accused Israel of trying to derail diplomatic progress with Washington.

Iran’s official news agency says Iranian forces are carrying out a hybrid attack with drones accompanying the missiles targeting Israeli cities.

Iran says that the Shahran oil depot northwest of Tehran was targeted in an Israeli attack, but that the situation is under control. Earlier, we reported that Israel had attacked a gas field close to Bushehr and the oil refinery in Abadan.

The Israeli prime minister says the attacks are aimed at Iran’s nuclear programme, ballistic missiles and military capabilities. “This operation will continue as long as necessary, until we complete the mission,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

Tehran, calling the resolution a strategic mistake, warned of countermeasures and rejected the IAEA’s findings. The US hopes to use the resolution to push Iran towards renewed talks and limits on uranium enrichment. Experts warn Iran could reach weapons-grade enrichment within five months if it proceeds unchecked. Iran has threatened to limit inspections or even withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty if sanctions resume. In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry and its Atomic Energy Organisation announced in a joint statement that the country will build a new uranium enrichment facility “in a secure location”, adding that “other measures… will be announced later”.

An Air India plane bound for London with more than 240 people on board has crashed in India's western city of Ahmedabad. Officials say there are no known survivors. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner went down shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad's airport. Local media are reporting the aircraft crashed on a Medical College hostel. The number of victims on the ground is unclear. Emergency crews are at the scene in Ahmedabad. The aircraft reportedly gave a "mayday" call, signalling an emergency, shortly after take-off.

Israeli naval commandos have taken control of the Madleen, a British-flagged vessel operated by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), which had set sail to challenge Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. The yacht, carrying 12 people including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and an Al Jazeera journalist, was intercepted in international waters, approximately 160km from Gaza’s coast.

Video showed strikes on Dahiyeh shortly after the Israeli military said it would strike the neighbourhood. The Israeli military has said it was targeting underground drone production sites. Prior to the attacks, it issued forced evacuation orders for four areas in Dahiyeh.

The Israeli-US aid operation has turned Gaza into a “human abattoir”, or slaughterhouse, former UNRWA spokesperson Chris Gunness has said, in a reference to distribution sites operated by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). “Hundreds of civilians are herded like animals into fenced-off pens and are slaughtered like cattle in the process,” Gunness told Al Jazeera. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation announced a full day’s closure on Wednesday, saying that operations would resume after the completion of maintenance and repair work on its distribution sites. It comes after Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians seeking aid, killing at least 27 people and injuring about 90, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The closure has extended into today. The former UN official cast doubt on the reason for the suspension, saying its work had been halted “because it has rightly sparked international outrage and condemnation”.
