The Israeli military has said it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen towards its territory. “Sirens were sounded in accordance with protocol,” it said in a statement. Yemen’s Houthi group has been firing missiles and drones towards Israel, stating that their actions are acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The Houthis in Yemen have said that as long as the war in Gaza continues, they are going to be firing missiles towards Israeli territory and towards Israeli airspace.

In Burkina Faso, there are reports that 200 soldiers have been killed in attacks by an Al Qaeda affiliate. It happened in the northern province of Loroum. The attacks follow an earlier assault in which 60 soldiers were killed at a military post in the same province. Nearly half of Burkina Faso is not under government control.

The Al Udeid military base in Qatar “plays a very important part in the stability of the region,” Faisal al-Mudahka, chief editor of Qatari media outlet Gulf Times, told Al Jazeera. He added that the US-Qatar relationship is an “exchange” as well, with the US providing “protection” for Qatar, while Doha gives Washington “intelligence and security”.

US President Donald Trump arrived in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, May 15, for the final leg of a three-day Gulf tour after visiting Saudi Arabia and Qatar. His visit follows billion-dollar pledges from those countries earlier in the Middle East tour, which started on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

It was another wave of multi-billion-dollar business deals for US President Donald Trump during his visit to Qatar, the second stop on his Middle East tour. President Trump hailed the trade agreements including the largest ever order of planes from US-company Boeing. It's the first time a sitting US president has made an official state visit to the gulf nation. During a state dinner in Doha, the emir of Qatar has asked US President Donald Trump to use American pressure to bring peace in the region.

Israel has been accused by aid groups of systematically targeting Gaza's healthcare infrastructure. On Tuesday, the European Hospital and Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza were targeted. At least 29 Palestinians were killed, including a journalist who was receiving treatment. The World Health Organization has recorded 686 Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities since the war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023. A total of 122 health facilities have been affected, leaving more than 90 percent of Gaza's hospitals damaged or destroyed. The World Health Organization says one of its teams was in the European Hospital when it was hit this week.

Qatar and the United States have signed a series of multi-billion dollar deals, deepening cooperation in trade and defence. On the second day of his Middle East tour, US President Donald Trump was welcomed by the Emir of Qatar in Doha. It marks the first official visit to Qatar by a sitting US president. The agreements are seen as a major step in strengthening strategic relations between the two countries.
