Footage from British newspaper The Guardian shows the last moments of a 12-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot and killed by Israeli forces. Ayman al-Hammouni was killed during an Israeli raid on Hebron more than a week ago. The Guardian says footage from two security cameras shows Israeli soldiers spotting the dead child and walking away. Ayman is then picked up by his uncle and taken to hospital. Israel has increased the frequency and intensity of its raids on the occupied West Bank.

Palestinians are breaking their fast after marking the first day of Ramadan—in the midst of rubble and destruction in Rafah, southern Gaza. Before Israel launched its war on Gaza, Ramadan was a joyous time of year, but now the atmosphere is different in the strip. Arab nations, who have vehemently denounced Trump’s plan, are to come up with a counterproposal to keep Palestinians on their land while reconstruction gets under way. “The problem is there’s not a clear vision from the American side while the Israelis say they don’t want to see the Palestinian Authority or Hamas governing the Strip,” said Tamer Qarmout, a professor at the Doha Institute of Graduate Studies.

Tahani Mustafa, an expert on Israel-Palestine with International Crisis Group, has told Al Jazeera that it is important to “be cautious” when exercising any optimism about phase two of the ceasefire deal. She said Israeli politicians have made it “very clear that they’re not interested in a phase two”, adding that the Israeli public is also “not really interested in seeing a permanent cessation of hostilities”.
