I rate them highly, there are results,” he said, as reported by the Interfax news agency. Putin also said the US and Russia do not need mediators in the talks while adding that Trump told him Ukraine would be part of any negotiations. It was unclear if this occurred during the two leaders’ call last week or if the message was conveyed via the delegation.

His son Rashid held the office eight times in a career that ended with his assassination in a midair helicopter explosion in 1987. His brother Omar Karami held the office for two terms but fell from grace after Rafik Hariri was killed in a roadside bomb attack in February 2005. A new generation is now seeking to continue the legacy of the dynasty, led by Faisal Karami. But their country’s future may be determined as much by global forces as by regional Middle East geopolitics alone.

Hamas has just released a statement outlining its vision for the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal. “We are ready for a second phase in which the prisoners will be exchanged in one go, within the criterion of reaching an agreement that leads to a permanent ceasefire and a complete withdrawal from the Strip,” spokesman Hazem Qassem said. Earlier, Hamas announced it will release the bodies of four Israeli captives on Thursday, and six more who are still alive, on Saturday. The group says it's showing flexibility, as a sign of its commitment to the ceasefire deal and calls on Israel to do the same.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has renewed a demand that Kyiv be included in any talks on how to end Russia’s war on Ukraine after the United States and Russia agreed to create a team to negotiate a halt to the fighting.
