  • Marwan Bishara on how Zionism turned many Jews into 'occupiers' and 'tormentors' of Palestinians
A total of 183 Palestinians have been released from Israeli prisons and three Israeli captives have been freed in Gaza, in the fifth swap as part of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the images of three freed captives in Gaza are “shocking”. “The shocking images that we have seen today will not go unaddressed,” the prime minister’s office said in a statement after Hamas fighters brought the three pale-looking captives onto a stage. Speaking about the frail, disoriented appearance of today’s freed Israeli captives, Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, said, “People are starving in Gaza. Children are dying of malnutrition. Because Netanyahu has weaponised hunger and famine.” He added: “Zionism is responsible for turning Israelis into occupiers, the torturers, the racists.”

  • Prime Minister Netanyahu ‘weaponised hunger’ in Gaza: Marwan Bishara
senior political analyst Marwan Bishara highlights the irony in Israeli outrage over the weight loss of three captives, calling it more than just absurd or cynical—it is, as Israelis themselves might say, the ultimate 'chutzpah'. He emphasizes that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who now expresses concern over the captives' health, is being pursued by the International Criminal Court for using hunger as a weapon of war in Gaza, where countless Palestinians, including children, have died from starvation and malnutrition. Bishara also suggests that the testimonies of Palestinians released from Israeli prisons—many describing them as torture chambers—are unlikely to gain attention in the Western world.
