In his first epistle, Peter teaches believers how to triumph as they go through persecution. Dr. Stanley reveals that some of our best days come when we properly respond to hardship. That’s because God wants Christ to be our inner strength.

Dr. Stanley elaborates on what kind of enemy we are dealing withSatan. Knowing he cannot touch the spirit of believers, the devil attempts to render us useless before God through lies and deception. So how can we become victorious over satanic attacks? By submitting to the Holy Spirit who lives within us.

Peter tells the church elders to eagerly shepherd the flock of God according to His will and not out of compulsion. Dr. Stanley talks about how the role of pastor, or undershepherd, came to be. He then gives us a clear understanding of what a pastor’s motivation and manner of conduct must be and how he must serve in today’s church.

Peter encourages his readers to be ready to suffer for righteousness. He tells them that even if their persecution results in sacrificing their lives as Christ did, Godtheir judgewill honor and reward them in heaven. Peter commands them to arm themselves by adopting the attitude of Christ.

Dr. Stanley reminds us that Christ suffered not for doing what was wrong, but for doing what was right. As a result, His crucifixion freed us from the power of sin. With this incredible burden lifted, we can now concentrate on following Christ’s will for our lives rather than on our own needs. As we build momentum in the work of conquering sin, we become more spiritually mature.

The only person who could have died for our sin is a sinless person. That disqualifies everyone except Jesus. Only He could still remain God and pay the penalty of our sin to bring us to God.

Dr. Stanley tells us that redemptive suffering does not gain us forgiveness for our sin. Forgiveness results from God’s grace, freely given through Christ, which cannot be earned. God is ready, willing, and able to bring us to Him. He’s done everything he can through Christ’s resurrection. But it is now up to us to receive Him by faithfully following what He says. One act of obedience to God is to be baptized. It helps us recognize that when Christ died, we died. When He was buried, we were buried. And when He arose, we arose.
