The ceasefire and hostage-release deal between Iran's arch-enemy Israel and the Tehran-backed militant group Hamas went into effect just over a week ago, aiming to put an end to more than 15 months of war.

"The small, limited Gaza brought the Zionist regime, armed to the teeth, and fully supported by America, to its knees," Khamenei said during a meeting with officials in Tehran.

Also on Tuesday, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, criticised US President Donald Trump's idea to move Palestinians out of Gaza to other locations such as Egypt or Jordan.

"Political coercion and demographic manipulations will not be able to force the Palestinians to migrate," Baqaei said in a post on X, adding that Gaza is the Palestinians' "homeland and they've paid (an) extremely high price to remain there".

The war in Gaza was sparked by Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack, which resulted in the deaths of 1,210 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Militants also took 251 hostages, 87 of whom remain in Gaza, including dozens Israel says are dead.

Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed over 47,000 people in Gaza, the majority civilians, according to figures from the Hamas-run territory's health ministry that the United Nations considers reliable.

A California duck farm made headlines this week after the World Organization of Animal Health published a report by U.S. authorities that a strain of bird flu that scientists call H5N9 had been found among sick birds in the flock.

This is far from the first time that H5N9 has been found in birds around the country. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture said it was the first time that H5N9 had been found in American poultry sick with "highly pathogenic avian influenza," meaning it caused severe disease.

"Clinical signs included increased mortality. State officials have quarantined the affected premises," the USDA said of the flock.

An Egyptian source denied Tuesday media reports about a phone call between the Egyptian and US presidents over the resettlement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump reiterated his suggestion of moving Palestinians out of Gaza, saying he spoke with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi over the issue.

A high-level Egyptian source, however, denied any phone call between the two leaders.

"Any phone call by the president is announced according to procedure followed with heads of state," the state-affiliated Al-Qahera News channel said, citing the source.

The source urged media outlets "to exercise utmost accuracy" regarding communications at this level “during this critical time that the Middle East region is going through” and given “the distinguished relations between the presidents of the two countries."
