Authorities are investigating a shocking explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck that occurred near the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Friday evening. The incident, which caused significant damage to nearby property and prompted evacuations, is being treated as a potential act of terrorism.
The explosion happened at approximately 7:30 PM local time. Witnesses reported hearing a deafening blast followed by plumes of smoke rising into the sky. The Cybertruck, parked near the hotel, was engulfed in flames shortly afterward. Emergency services quickly responded, extinguishing the fire and securing the area.
Clark County Sheriff’s Office confirmed no fatalities but reported several minor injuries, including passersby who were hit by debris. Federal agents, including representatives from the FBI and ATF, are now leading the investigation.
“We are exploring all possible motives, including the possibility of a targeted attack,” said FBI Special Agent Sarah Lopez during a press briefing. “While it’s too early to confirm terrorism, the location and nature of the incident warrant a thorough investigation.”
Law enforcement officials have not disclosed whether any suspects have been identified or apprehended. Security footage from the area is being analyzed, and authorities are urging the public to share any relevant information.
The Trump International Hotel and surrounding areas were placed on lockdown for several hours while bomb squads and forensic teams combed the scene. Guests were temporarily relocated to nearby hotels as a precaution.
The explosion has raised concerns about public safety and the use of electric vehicles in potential criminal acts. Experts speculate that the Cybertruck’s robust battery pack may have contributed to the intensity of the blast, though this has not been confirmed by Tesla.
Local residents expressed shock and unease. “This is Las Vegas—we’re used to excitement, but not like this,” said Maria Fernandez, a bystander who witnessed the aftermath.
City officials have vowed to enhance security measures in light of the incident. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman assured residents and visitors that safety remains a top priority, especially during the holiday season when tourist numbers surge.
As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing for calm and vigilance. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the FBI’s Las Vegas field office.
