All seven nations are mentioned by name in order to assure the Israelites that all their enemies would be driven out of the land. This was to make way for Israel's possession of the entire land of Canaan. In the same way, Jesus passed through the river of death and was raised as the firstfruits of what all believers can expect to inherit (1 Corinthians 15:20).
