I talk about a habit I’ve noticed in myself: when I ask questions, I often tack on two options, as if I’m narrowing what someone can say (like “today or tomorrow” or “fun or a letdown”), and I recognize it’s a bit like telling someone what they’re feeling. I reflect on other conversational patterns I notice: people who don’t wait for answers, never ask questions, or say they’re wrapping up and then keep talking, partly because editing podcasts makes me hyperaware of these things. 

I talk about the tagline for the show—recording an episode every day for “my 50th year on the planet”—and acknowledge that Jeremy Cherfas quickly pointed out it’s technically my 51st year unless I’m Superman.
