Dakota James, a 23-year-old graduate student at Duquesne University, vanished in Pittsburgh on January 25, 2017. A CCTV image captured Dakota walking through Katz Plaza and down an alley toward Fort Duquesne Boulevard. After a 40-day search, his body was found in the Ohio River near the Interstate 79 bridge over Neville Island. 

The medical examiner ruled it an accidental drowning, but Dakota's parents, considering his swimming ability, questioned this conclusion. Forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht noted inconsistencies in the autopsy findings, including possible ligature marks on Dakota's neck...
