  • WHAT'S THAT IN YOUR HAND?

What if the very thing God needs from us is already in our hands? This message takes us deep into the story of Moses at the burning bush, where God calls an ordinary, reluctant shepherd to do something extraordinary. We explore a question that cuts right to the heart of how we respond to God's call: 'What is that in your hand?' Moses had every excuse ready. He felt unqualified, unknown, and unprepared. And yet God's response to every protest was not a list of resources to acquire or skills to develop, but a steady, unwavering promise: I will be with you. The burning bush account in Exodus 3 and 4 reveals a God who sees suffering, hears cries of injustice, and comes down to bring people up. That same movement finds its fullest expression in Jesus Christ. When we understand that the God who called Moses is the same God who calls us, the question stops being theoretical and becomes deeply personal. What has God already placed in our hands that we have not yet offered back to Him?

  • WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER?

From the very first pages of Scripture, God is asking us questions that cut straight to the heart of what it means to be human. In Genesis 4, after Cain kills his brother Abel, God poses one of the most haunting questions in the entire Bible: 'Where is your brother?' Cain's deflecting response, 'Am I my brother's keeper?', echoes through history as the oldest excuse for indifference. What is striking is that this is actually the first question a human being asks in all of Scripture, and it is asked in bad faith. Yet God's question to Cain is also God's question to us. The Hebrew word for 'keep' used here is almost always reserved for what God does, as in the priestly blessing of Numbers 6 or the assurances of Psalm 121. When Cain throws the word back at God, he is essentially asking whether we are expected to love with the same attentiveness that God loves. The answer, woven throughout the biblical narrative, is yes. We are bound to one another, and that responsibility is not optional. This message challenges us to examine where we have answered God's question with silence, avoidance, or deflection, and invites us to reclaim our calling as people who take genuine responsibility for those around us.

  • Where are you?

This powerful message takes us back to the very beginning of the human story, to that pivotal moment in Genesis 3 when everything changed. We explore God's first question to humanity: 'Where are you?' What makes this question so profound is that God wasn't asking for information—God already knew where Adam and Eve were hiding. Instead, this question creates space for confession, for honest dialogue, and for restoration. We discover that this ancient question still echoes through our lives today. Like Adam and Eve, we often hide—from God, from others, and even from ourselves. We cover up our fears with fake confidence, our sadness with forced smiles, our doubts with pretended certainty. We're afraid of being truly known, worried we won't be accepted if people see who we really are. But here's the beautiful truth: God comes looking for us anyway. The same God who walked through the garden seeking Adam and Eve is the God who came in Jesus Christ, still seeking us out today. The question 'Where are you?' isn't meant to condemn us but to invite us into transformation. When we're honest about where we are—our hopes, fears, joys, and sorrows—it begins to change us from the inside out. This message reminds us that we don't have to hide anymore. We can be found, and being found brings even more joy than hiding ever could.

  • OUR OWN SELVES

At the heart of this message lies a profound truth from 1 Thessalonians: authentic ministry and genuine faith require us to share not only the gospel but our very selves with others. Paul's tender letter to the Thessalonians reveals that building relationships is inseparable from sharing good news. We're reminded that faith isn't meant to be a solitary journey or confined within church walls. Just as grits don't come one at a time but all together, we too are meant to go together as a community of believers. The challenge extends beyond our comfort zones: Do we have friends outside the church? Are we willing to share our lives with those who haven't yet encountered this transformative message? The sermon weaves personal stories of calling and discernment, showing how God often speaks through the voices of others with whom we've built relationships. Whether through a Bible study group, a coworker's unexpected comment, or a pastor's wise words, God uses our connections to guide us. The central truth echoes Jesus's greatest commandment: loving God with everything we have and loving our neighbors as ourselves. This cruciform, cross-shaped life reaches upward to God and outward to others, inviting us to share not just information but our very souls in authentic relationship.
