During NFL's Monday Night Football game on Jan 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after suffering from a reported cardiac arrest. In rare form, the NFL made the decision to cancel the game entirely, which is something that has never happened due to player injury. The cause of Hamlin's collapse was ultimately pinned on a condition known as commotio cordis; however, many have speculated that Hamlin's cardiac arrest may have been attributed to the current "died suddenly" phenomena.
