  • Riff Talk #17 - "Incan Run"
This next original riff, played on a Spanish nylon guitar, was created about 3 years ago (2015). I like the ascending part of it and how it crashes down. It has a sense of urgency, but I feel it gets sort of lost in the loop and needs to spin out in a new direction. What would you add or change to it?

  • Riff Talk #16 - "Threshold"
This Riff#16 is interesting because the capo is on the 11th, only on strings D to the high E. Completely changes up the fretboard! I wrote this one back in November 2016. It's got some potential to be pretty powerful. What do you think of jaggedness? What could you add to it?
One downside of this weird capo situation is that it messes everything up if you bump into it just a little. Oh well.

  • Riff Talk #15 - "Here"
This song idea has some potential, just need to tie up the loose ends. What do you think of the lyrics, and the B section? Does it compliment the A section well? I also think I'm playing it a little too fast. Should be slowed down a bit.
For the B section, I'm definitely picturing some intense percussion, and maybe a clean electric guitar line. Let me know what you think it needs!

  • Riff Talk #14 - "Chandelier"
Riff #14 is called "Chandelier", and sort of like Riff #12, I think it might be well suited for a film. Some kind of sad, elegant scene or something. Need to find a way to connect it to that riff I play later on in the clip. What other instruments are you hearing as a potential arrangement? How about percussion?

  • Riff Talk #13 - "Gamma Ride"
This one kind of reminds me of Nelly's "Ride Wit Me". Or no? Let me know what you think of the B section. This idea desperately needs some drums over it! And some kind of bouncy bass line I think. Let me know your thoughts

  • RIP Chis Cornell - "Like A Stone" Guitar Tribute
One year ago today we lost Chris Cornell. RIP to one of the greatest voices we've ever heard and felt. "Like A Stone" was one of my favorite songs growing up. His voice gives me chills, still to this day. I wanted to pay tribute to him by providing some guitar harmonies behind his incredible isolated vocal from the song. Rest easy, Chris.

  • Riff Talk #12 - "Fogwheel"
Picture a disc/wheel in a playground with leaves, rustling wind, and that disc is just spinning and fluctuating in speed. Super weird right? Check it out. Could it work in a film perhaps? What would you added over it? Besides wind, obviously.

  • Riff #28 - "Down"
I really enjoyed making this next riff - I think it's one of those ideas that can just keep going forever. The improv soloing over was really fun to do, probably because the progression is emotional and serious. Fits the name "Down", I think. I could hear some vocals on this too, no? Who wants to solo over this? It'd be a blast to trade off improvising!
