Founding father of DETROIT TECHNO since 1986, DJ pioneer, quick-mix master, musical ambassador and label owner. Eddie Fowlkes is the history of Detroit Techno and not just because his handprints are cemented on the Detroit Historical Museum’s “Legends Plaza.”

His 30+ years of moving a dancefloor and his 150+ deep catalog of soulful classics speak for themselves. After attending a 1978 Charivari party with his older sisters where he saw DJ Darryl Shannon mixing records, Eddie requested a mixer for Christmas. From that time on he mastered the art of DJing leading to his first release in 1986. That release on Metroplex Records, “Goodbye Kiss,” helped establish what would come to be known as Detroit Techno. In the 1980s, he performed with three turntables, a mixer, wah-wah pedal and the 808 & 909 drum machines and this revolutionary style of DJing pushed the boundaries of what a disc jockey could be.

In 1993, Eddie Fowlkes found a name for his distinct sound: Techno Soul. Techno Soul is Detroit techno, 70s funk, the Motown sound, Parliament, and Chicago house. Eddie’s DJ sets reflect his productions that are an evolution in one track, from house to techno and back again. Eddie has many recordings and remixes on major labels and independents dating back to 1989 (Elektra Records, Sony, BMG, Warner Brothers, Azuli, Tresor, P.I.A.S).

Of the Detroit originators, Eddie is not simply just a great DJ or just a great producer - he is equally strong in both avenues. Eddie never rested on his laurels but has always worked hard. A true inspiration to many generations of artists, he continues to create, to push boundaries, to release music on his two imprints (City Boy Records and Detroit Wax Records), to charm dancefloors worldwide, and to represent Detroit musical talent at its best.

“Deep”, perhaps the word most associated with the career of Fred P, and for once, an accurate portrayal. Eleven albums, innumerable releases and decades of Djing into his career, the New York-turned-Berlin resident continues to push further into his own sound, craft and mind. For those fortunate enough to be present for one of Fred's cathartic, physical and spiritual DJ sets, the dancefloor is not just a place for enjoyment, but for potential.

That opportunity for potential – his own, yours, that of our collective consciousness – has long-been the earnest pursuit of Fred P, channelled expertly through his evolved and deeply personal exploration of house and techno music. His futurist approach is inspired as much by the scene's bonafide revolutionaries, from Francois K to Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia, as his own futurist philosophy, weaved together from a glorious patchwork inspired by an ever-expanding network or thinkers, collaborators and international encounters.

If this all sounds rather academic, then any appearance from Fred P will cement the sound of his vision. Years dancing at New York nightspots such as Red Zone, Sound Factory and Tunnel proved to be the sort of open-minded education that cannot be bought, cannot be sold and cannot be hyped. Here, among an eclectic cast throng of consciously aligned fellow party-goers, Fred P learned pleasure and patience from extensive record collections that often went some way to suggest that less can mean more.

It's a confidence than runs through his music and Djing, and most recently earned him a quarterly residency split between London's twin clubs, Oval Space and Pickle Factory, sharing the bill with like-minded contemporaries. He was also handed control of the club's soundsystem for several all-night sessions, a favourite format of his, creating space to conjure a unique, sensual and almost psychedelic early morning atmosphere that the New York native is almost notorious for being able to conjure like few others (refer to his own cult classic, '6AM' for a seductive glimpse of this particular sound.)

Time passes, for better or worse, and with that, change must be embraced. 2018 sees Fred P bring his acclaimed Soul People Music outlet to an end and embrace a new label, Perpetual Sound. Launching with a new recording for arguably his best-loved alias, Black Jazz Consortium, the label will be guided solely by his proven eye for emotion and evolution, anticipating new collaborations and styles.

“The 20th century was big on originality... The 21st century, so far, not too much”, he reflects. “That attitude in general, towards everything, pushes this singular ethos. The us or nothing bullshit. So what's standing in the way of the obvious stuff? What is the end goal?

The end goal is to fully embrace our potential, and to remove the things that hold us back: Greed, envy and self-

interest. To embrace a more humanitarian approach Not just for ourselves, but for our species.”

Xenia is a great story of a breathtaking success achieved through hard work and desire to overcome the difficult path of a female artist in the world of electronic music. Born in 1996 in a small village in the Ternopil region in western Ukraine, she played musical instruments and her favourite accordion already from the age of 10. Twenty kilometres is exactly the length of the path that the little girl travelled several times a week to attend classes in the neighbouring village to prove to everyone once and for all that her life mission is music. In 2013, Xenia moved to the vibrant capital- Kiev, where she entered the University of Technology and Design, but quickly quit her studies plunging headlong into the city's nightlife with a firm resolution to act on the other side of the DJ table.

Xenia's debut and turning point in her professional DJ career were two video DJ mixes on the Radio Intense streaming project in 2016. Each of them collected more than a million views and made her move from playing at private parties to having one of the most densely packed touring schedules, becoming the headliner of club events and large festivals in the homeland, as well as resident of the legendary afterparty club in Kyiv- Heaven.

Continuing to actively cooperate with Radio Intense, and regularly publishing her videos, Xenia becomes an increasingly visible and influential figure on the international electronic scene and released her first tracks on Codex, Set About, IAMT and Stick Recordings.

The difficult pandemic years of 2020 and 2021 were definitely not wasted - together with IAMT Music Group, Xenia launched her own label Numen, which in a fairly short time turned into a powerful techno brand and is a real magnet for a large number of both young and experienced techno producers. Several cool videos released recently have only strengthened her status as the hottest and fastest growing techno diva, preparing to loudly declare herself in the near future and consolidate her position in the hearts of techno lovers worldwide.

Julien Veniel, artist name D’Julz, is undoubtedly a true craftsman behind the decks going beyond mere genres and trends, actively shaping the ever-changing soundscape of electronic music through his own productions, DJ performances and parties.

With a career spanning over two and a half decades, D’Julz has practically done it all. He began spinning in Paris, often playing his home city’s much-talked about early 90’s raves and legendary clubs, all before moving to New–York in 1993 to further hone his skills and cement his reputation as a true taste-maker in his field. The rest, as they say, is history.

A gifted curator of music whose pedigree has earned him a loyal international following and a constant tour schedule which sees him travel the worlds major cities every week playing the best venues they have on offer. Not to mention the infamous Circoloco (DC10) where he has held a residency for 7 years, taking charge of the main room and the world-renowned red terrace room several times each summer season. Each set demonstrates his uncanny ability to weave his penchant for dub elements into the house and techno sphere and rocking the floor with potent groove and sultry rhythms. 

Since D’Julz started producing he has been responsible for a long list of tracks and remixes that have become essential weapons in the record boxes of the world’s DJ elite. His music has been signed to some of the world’s finest underground labels – Circus Company, Robsoul, Ovum, Rekids and more. As his Bass Culture label goes from strength to strength, clocking over 60 releases, he recently started a new label called JV recordings with the Yoyaku crew.

D’Julz remains as enthusiastic as he was when he first started DJing and continues to traverse the globe rocking dance floors every weekend. Without doubt a true legend and one who continues to be at the top of his game now and forever.

An avid collector and player of all things vinyl, Karina is also one of the residents and creators of Ibizas most successful weekly open-air party The Zoo Project.

Her trademark style fuses elements of raw Chicago and Detroit electronic music together with the minimalistic, forward thinking deep house that has become synonymous with her sound. Never afraid to stray from her norm and always keen to experiment with something outside of the traditional house/techno paradigm, her vinyl selection is seductive, laid-back and hypnotic while all the time retaining a driving, motivating rhythm.

Being the first DJ to play at legendary Panther Room in New York, the Norway based Karina has ever since frequently toured North America performing in top notch spots such as Housepitality in San Francisco, Creme de la Creme in Dallas, Smart Bar Chicago, Deck22 in Tijuana or several clubs in the Big Apple. Karina is also a resident and frequent visitor of Middle Easts underground event Analog Room (Dubai).

Berlin and New York, her second homes, have over the years exposed her to their raw creativity helping her develop her production skills. Releases followed on God Particle, Cymawax and Absence Seizure and much more is on the way.

The C&K project launched together with NYC native Connie Yin at the end of 2018, had the two artists joining forces to play the final month of its existence at the legendary Panther Room in Williamsburg. Confident in their choices, C&K blend a variety of sounds, experimenting with 4/4 beats and unquantified live minimal arrangements. Focussing on production during the pandemic C&K are in talks planning a vinyl imprint.

David Brian Pezzner was born in Tarzana, California in 1975 and currently lives in Seattle, Washington. He is 5 foot 7 inches in height and weighs about 165 lbs. His brother, Bill works at the Port Of Seattle and has four children.

When David works in his studio where he makes electronic music, his wife brings him a drink and discusses her day. The door-keeper comes in to give him a telegram sent the previous year from the Eolian Islands.

In 2010 he wrote an electronic music album which was released by the Freerange Records music company. A year later David’s first and only daughter, Eloise was born. She was 5 pounds 11 ounces at birth. David spoke only English and cooked meals for his family every day until 2013 when a man named Marc Romboy representing a phonographic record company called Systematic Recordings contracted him for his second album. Pezzner now composes for the Berlin based, Get Physical Music GmbH, Dirtybird Records, and his own label, Hunt & Gather.

Besides writing music for night clubs and headphones, Pezzner composes for vision and function, he creates sound scapes for theatre and teaches electronic music concepts in his home studio. He sleeps exactly like any other man but, as you will no doubt have noticed, he is not an orthodox painter of the old school, but rather a modern artist. A designer of sound.

Starting his career over three decades ago, Cristian Varela is acknowledged as one of Spain's pioneering techno producers and promoters. Being one of the first Spanish DJ's to receive international bookings, he quickly gained an extremely respected DJ fame for playing standout techno sets on four vinyl turntables.  

When talking about Cristian Varela's roots, long standing fans of the Techno genre will need little introduction for his seminal remixes of artists such as Ben Sims or Speedy J. Although living in London for many years, he has never forgotten his origins, often returning to Spain to give guest talks at many of the country's leading music schools and colleges. Winning more than 40 Awards along his career, makes him one of the most awarded artists in the electronic scene and a huge asset to the electronic music community.

More than just a remix artist, Cristian Varela has released numerous solo EP's on labels ranging from Carl Cox's Intec to his own Pornographic Recordings. His imprint continues to feature new music from the likes of The Advent, Ken Ishii, Gary Beck, Marco Bailey, UMEK, and many more, while the, recently relaunched "Black Codes Experiments" project is a return to his roots with a series of gigs and vinyl only releases featuring artists such as Regis, Mark Broom, Shufflemaster, Tensal, Abstract Division, Exium and Arnaud Le Texier, amongst others. Many do not realise Cristian Varela is also a successful composer scoring soundtracks for film, theatre and television. He has also recorded a symphonic album at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London.

Cristian Varela's 25 year career in music, was marked with the critically acclaimed release of the "Music- Passion & Respect" documentary, which features testimonials and commentary of friends and colleagues including Carl Cox, Chris Liebing and Joseph Capriati, In 2021 for his 30th Anniversary in the Industry Cristian Varela has released his track EIGHTH on one of the most prestigious Techno Labels MORD owned by Bas Mooy and MATERIA with his brother Marco Bailey.

With a gig schedule that takes him all over the world, for those who are patient, you should be able to catch Cristian in your home city or country. For those who need a more regular dose of his music selection, you can catch his weekly radio show at BloopRadio- London and all his shows in Europe, USA, South America and Asia via more than 100 specialised techno stations in more than 70 countries.

Combining warm micro cosmic grooves with the human touch Soundopamine is without doubt a duo live act to watch out for! Call them a fresh breath of air in the Romanian music scene Chris & Natasha are lifetime musicians that met at the courses of the National Music University in Bucharest, back in 2012. Creating their own everyday paradise soundtrack ever since, in 2017 they took part in the #wildmusictracks experiment in which they transformed a bus into a musical instrument (on the way to Sunwaves Festival). Vinyl releases as Moment Ep (EPV001), Una cu Natura Eo (EPV003) and other digital goodies and video live-sets can be found on their Bandcamp page and when searching for their own label #everydayparadise. They have been invited as production trainers along with Rhadoo, Mahony and Fouchat, to the Romanian DJ Bootcamp, as well as being pioneers of their their own recent production camp Creative Island in Tenerife. Performances across Eastern Europe at festivals like Untold, Electric Castle Festival and Neversea and many more have resulted Trommel nominating Soundopamine as must see artists on the rise in 2021.

Jamie Odell wears many hats and wears them well. He's one of the most revered house producers/DJs on the scene and his labels Freerange and Delusions Of Grandeur continue to help break incredible new music which he brings to his DJ sets across the globe.

The long list of productions and remixes the Jimpster has done for many top notch artists worldwide is long and without doubt impressive.

Releases such as ‘English Rose’, 'Dangly Panther', 'A Love Like This' and 'Can't Stop Loving' continue to be choice cuts for many DJ's whilst 'These Times' and 'Porchlight And Rocking Chairs', two more recent deep house anthems, were remixed by Dixon and KiNK to serious effect.

The One EP released last year proved he still has a knack for delivering dance floor gems with a soulful touch receiving love from the likes of Jamie 3:26, DJ Spinna, Osunlade and Opolopo to name a few.

The current stat count as a remixer recently passed a century and the acts to receive his midas touch include everyone from Osunlade (“Mommas Groove” still being hammered by Moodymann on a regular basis), Solomun, Kollektiv Turmstrasse and Josh Wink ('Jus Right') through to Bob Marley, Seal and Terrence Parker. More recent remixes for Detroit Swindle, Butch and Atjazz show that the inspiration is still flowing thick and fast and he is currently hard at work putting together his first live show since his early days in the late 90’s.

As he puts it himself, “The mission is clear: to try to inject warmth, depth, soul, sincerity and attitude to both my productions and my DJ sets. This is what sets the major players apart from the pretenders. That challenge is what keeps me focused and inspired 30 years on and I'm sure it will keep the fire in my belly for many years to come."

From his UK base, Jimpster has inadvertently become a standard-bearer and custodian of the authentic house sound, and carries this flag to the four corners of the world.
