This week, Tommy Rich is away in Philadelphia working a show so Doug and Gene invited a special guest to join them in 'the Grappler' Len Denton! A great conversation ensued covering how Len came about wearing the mask and who he "took" the Grappler name from, how he became the booker in Kansas City and the legend who felt he was the man for the job, how he felt about becoming a tag team with Tony Anthony in Mid South at the suggestion of Bill Watts, narrowly avoiding a tragedy at the Superdome in a match with the Junkyard Dog, protecting the business against a news reporter who called it fake, his relationship with Roddy Piper, plus the big Portland Wrestling Expo coming up in February, and much more! A really fun episode and an informative conversation with one of the top workers in the wrestling business who worked in nearly every territory during his career.

This week Doug & Tommy kick off the show talking about their weekend working the big wrestling event at the University of Memphis featuring many other legends of Memphis Wrestling. Then we get into some discussion of the "Memphis Mafia", who were the members? What was it exactly? Was it just an onscreen group, or was it more than that? Doug & Tommy get pretty in depth describing exactly who and what the Memphis Mafia was at that time in the USWA. In the process of this conversation a number of other interesting people and topics come up including: Sam Bass, John Gilliam, Sam Lowe, how Tommy paid the price when Doug and half the card got caught up in a "snow storm", dealing with heated fans, who Brian Christopher's "Favorite Wrestler" really was, and so much more!

Dangerous Conversations w/Doug Gilbert Episode #11: The "New" Fabulous One w/guest Tommy Rich
This week Doug is excited to announce that not only is his "brother" Tommy "Wildfire" Rich returning to the show as a guest, he's going to be a permanent part of Dangerous Conversations moving forward! On this episode we have an indepth conversation with Tommy about teaming with Doug’s brother Eddie Gilbert in 1984 as Jackie Fargo's "New" Fabulous Ones to replace the previous Fabulous Ones, Stan Lane & Steve Keirn who left the Memphis territory. They would be opposing Jimmy Hart’s "New" Fabulous Ones consisting of Porkchop Cash & Troy Graham but those plans would soon change when Graham suffered a severe injury that would take him out of the ring for nearly a decade. We cover their entire run as a team and discuss the various feuds and notable matches they had leading into the eventual legendary angle on television where they officially split up the team!

We seem to be on a roll right now with fun interviews with some of Doug's best friends in the wrestling business so we figured we would keep that going and welcome the one and only Downtown Bruno to the show this week!
Many fans are familiar with Bruno's time in the WWF/E as Dr. Harvey Wippleman and that Bruno is a best friends with Dewayne "the Rock" Johnson, and that Bruno managed in the Memphis territory but many don't realize that Bruno got his start in the Kansas City territory and spent some time working for Continental in Alabama in the 80's, and that Bruno was a very close friend to not only Doug, but to Tommy and Eddie Gilbert as well. Bruno shares a bunch of great stories from throughout his career including stories of working with a very young Sid Vicious in Alabama, working with Big Bubba and Goliath in Memphis, his USWA feud with Scott Bowden, working with Bertha Faye, Stacy Carter, Miss Texas, Emily Arthur, and many, many others. It's always a fun time talking to Bruno as he drinks beer and eats chickens wings down in good ol' Walls, Mississippi. So come hang out and listen in on a "Dangerous Conversation" with Dangerous Doug & Downtown Bruno!

This week's episode was recorded live and in person in Jackson, Tennessee immediately before the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame Ceremony. Doug is excited to welcome his long time tag team partner and one of his best friends, Tommy "Wildfire" Rich! They discuss a variety of topics including: how Tommy met Doug's father Tommy Gilbert, Tommy's experiences learning from Tojo Yamamoto early in his career, defeating the great Harley Race to become the youngest NWA World Champion in 1981, the prevailing locker room mentality amongst wrestlers and why promoters seem to encourage it, Tommy's very fun "corn story", and so much more!
At the end of the episode, Gene teases that the next time Tommy joins the show, (which will be soon) they will discuss the "New" Fabulous Ones tag team of Tommy Rich and Eddie Gilbert in Memphis in 1984! Doug and Tommy agree that this topic could end up taking multiple episodes to cover!

This week Doug Gilbert welcomes a very special guest and long time family friend to the show, his former tag team partner and the man he will soon be inducting into the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame, "The Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony! Tony has wrestled in nearly every territory you can name during his 36 year pro wrestling career. They discuss the impact that meeting and teaming with Len Denton as both the Grapplers and the Dirty White Boys had on his whole career (He even gets a phone call from Lenny during the show!) Doug shares stories of getting to hang out with the Grapplers as a very young man and eventually learning from Tony and getting to team with him. Tony shares some fun memories of Eddie both as a friend and colleague and also as a booker.
They talk about their days in Continental working with "Nightmare" Danny Davis, teaming and feuding with the great Jerry Stubbs, and of course that famous feud with Dr. Tom Prichard and how it came to be.
Give it a listen and find out why Doug and Gene call this their favorite episode of the podcast so far!

It's Episode #6 of Dangerous Conversations and this week, Doug welcomes a special guest: the Founder, Owner, and President of Power Pro Wrestling, Randy Hales. Doug has known Randy for well over 40 years and despite having some tense moments at times over the years, they are still friends to this day. As we move towards the huge "Night to Remember" event in Jackson, Tennessee on Saturday September 21st, the guys discuss all of the inductees that will be in this year's class of the Memphis Wrestling Hall of Fame especially the "Dirty White Boy" Tony Anthony, whom Doug will be personally inducting into the Hall himself.
A ton of great conversation here about the Memphis Wrestling territory, the Gilbert/Rich vs. PG-13 feud, a comparison of the Fabs & The Rock & Roll Express in the 80s, and much, much more!
