I recently had the honor of presenting at the California Sexual Assault Investigator's Association Virtual Spring Training Conference on the dangers and consequences of untreated PTSD/vicarious trauma. This episode is a re-recording of an abridged version of that presentation. While I am not a licensed clinician or therapist, I have first hand experience with suffering from PTSD - as well as refusing to seek professional help and attempting to deal with the symptoms on my own through unhealthy, self-destructive measures. This path ultimately lead to the loss of my law enforcement career, legal problems and financial ruin.

After hitting rock bottom, I finally gave in to the need to seek professional help. While I am incredibly thankful for the renewed life and healing the therapeutic process provided, I regret I had not sought help sooner. It would have undoubtedly saved my career, preserved interpersonal relationships and kept me out of jail.

We can't change the past, but we can use our experiences to help others not go down the same road as we. That is my new mission. It is the reason for this podcast, and why I always agree to share my story with any group/association that provides me an opportunity. Helping others brings me renewed purposed.
