This year’s Super Bowl will be remembered as a snoozefest that saw Tom Brady win another ring, while the Bucs defense shut down Patrick Mahomes and the Cheifs from the opening kickoff. This yawner is a reminder that Super Bowls are often overhyped, from Super Bowl 40 to the 37 the edition of the Big Game. All of us outside Tampa, including myself, need to remember this when Super Bowl 56 rolls around next year!

This Sunday is the Super Bowl, the most bet on the sporting event of the calendar year. While some of us may rarely go to a casino, one big bet on Sunday’s game could become an addiction or get you in legal trouble in some states and countries.
In the back of my mind, I have the horrifying picture of someone getting into trouble placing a bet with a bookie for one reason or another, and it’s something I NEVER want to happen to my listeners! Be careful with betting. It’s destroyed too many athletes…and their fans!

The passing of Tommy Lasorda leaves us to recast the man as more than just the guy who made arguing balls and strikes “cool”. He was so much more than that. Lasorda played for the Dodgers in the ‘50s. He made them a team to be reckoned with as a member of the coaching staff from the 1970s to the 1990s. He’s the reason so many Californians have tuned into baseball.
This man was so much more than a nightmare for umpires, and the game needs to mourn his passing for all of 2021!

When Keyontae Johnson passed out on the floor, the NCAA should’ve put plans in motion to postpone further basketball for a month. If Johnson’s hospital trip was a COVID issue, basketball shouldn’t be a concern for 30 days. Quarantine teams. Test guys. Wait 30 days to finish out the season. Because NCAA basketball cannot become life or death instead of a mere stepping stone to the NBA.

Dan discusses how the NFL players are still playing Football: I’m is stillI’m awestruck by NFL players’ ability to properly carry out their assignments on the field in spite of a global pandemic and political strife. In the ‘60s, assassinations were splattered all over the News. In 1993 the Oilers reached the playoffs despite internal bickering and a suicide. 9/11 made NFL games an afterthought. I thought this was a different animal.
Yet, we don’t have guys passing up games for fear of getting infected or freaking out if someone gets saliva on them in a pileup. Clearly, we don’t give players enough credit for their ability to focus on doing their jobs!

A little under 2 decades ago, PLaymakers aired on ESPN, exposing the dark side of life in an NFL locker room. Drug use, legal problems, and other issues plagued a fictional team…and reminded us no one on this Earth is a Saint…not even the ones in New Orleans!

The NFL needs to fine teams, make sure vets hold rookies accountable, and make sure it’s mostly team personnel in locker rooms because of outbreaks.
The league needs to know football is the one thing we look forward to Fall Sundays and keep COVID at bay because we look forward to Fall Sundays more than ever this year with all that’s going on!
