After months of speculation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially engaged. The two were engaged earlier this month in London and will have the wedding in spring 2018, according to a statement released by Prince Charles. Robert Falconer, Calgary Branch Chair of the Monarchist League of Canada, joins Danielle.

Syria's government and opposition will start a new round of UN talks in Geneva Tuesday, but both sides have little hope that this round of talks will make significant progress in ending the seven-year conflict. Talks are expected to focus on a new constitution and elections, two of the four "baskets" of reforms recommended by the United Nations. Rolf Holmboe, Ambassador to Denmark in Pakistan and Canadian Global Affairs Institute Fellow, joins Danielle to discuss the sides at play in the region.

Mount Agung, a volcano on the Indonesian island of Bali, has erupted for the first time in more than 50 years. Sending ash more than 4000 metres in the air, the eruption has forced the closure of the island's busy airport and authorities have ordered the evacuation of 100,000 people near the volcano. Martyn Unsworth, Professor of Physics / Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta, joins Danielle to explain how volcanoes affect the globe's atmosphere & weather patterns.

In a world-first, the Yukon will be putting warning labels on booze to inform the public that excessive consumption could lead to cancers like colon and breast cancer.

And in other news from the vice files, Ontario MP Peter Kent compared growing pot at home to "putting fentanyl on a shelf within reach of kids".

Friday on The Morning News, Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said: "...restaurant receipts are going up and overall profits are going up. We know that there is cycling through in the food industry, but, generally speaking, overall the statistics say that it's going up and getting better." But we keep hearing about restaurants in the city going under. Mark von Schellwitz, VP Western Canada of Restaurants Canada, joins Danielle to explain whether the Calgary restaurant scene doing as well as Premier Notley says it is.

Ellis Ross, MLA for Skeena in the British Columbia Legislature, joins Danielle to discuss why he sees energy projects as a way for indigenous communities to climb out of poverty, and his frustrations with conservation groups that seek to prevent these projects.
