The Chiefs are taking a precautionary approach to Charlie Ngatai after the All Blacks and Chiefs midfielder missed last week's loss to the Crusaders with a headache. Ngatai isn't in the 23 to play the Blues on Friday.
The Chiefs have also dropped Japanese captain Michael Leitch for Friday's game, with Liam Messam taking his spot at number eight.

Piers Francis has no issues with returning to the rugby field six days after being carted from the field having been knocked out.
The Blues first five will start against the Chiefs on Friday night, having been unconscious for a period shorter than 30 seconds after being hit against the Stormers.
Blues doctor Stephen Kara has outlined the lengthy process to clear Francis, and the man himself said he hasn't suffered from headaches or any other ill effects.
Former under-20s player Stephen Perofeta will back up Francis on the bench.
