If you had told us that Joey's childhood was anything like we came to found out it was, we would've probably never believed you.  After growing up in the system (yes, this blonde hair blue-eyed fashionista grew up in an orphanage) she forced the court system to let her travel to New York when she was a teenager thanks to a ticket a high school boyfriend surprised her with. After spending some time in Los Angeles, Joey got connected with someone in Britney Spear's crew, and was offered a job styling Britney's backup dancers on tour. She became Britney's wing woman, and went on from Britney to style celebrities like Paris Hilton, Seth Green, Emily VanCamp and more. Just because you grew up with a traumatic childhood doesn't mean your destiny is based on that.

One major tip from social entrepreneur Margo Jordan: always hold your wine glass, cell phone and napkin in one hand and keep one hand free. Margo is one of my dearest friends and a seriously successful entrepreneur, having founded a company called Chicks With Class in Houston years ago that has since been acquired. She now runs Youth Enrichments, and is an inspiring Black woman making major moves in the educational space.

The power of mentorship is something that never fails to impress me. The relationship a mentor has with a mentee, and vice versa, rarely leaves either person less than inspired. Najah and I connected at a talk I presented in Austin a few weeks ago, and her story is remarkable. If you're in the front row of one of my talks and raising your hand with questions, I'm paying attention!

Solo episode with Alexa on patience. To be a successful entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take risks and dip your toes into many different opportunities before you figure out what you like most. To do that, you have to have an element of patience. I've learned the hard way on how to be patient, and I'm sharing my tips with you on this episode.
