Life is full of “beginnings.”  We begin a new year, we may begin a new job or career, we could begin a new class, or begin attending a new school.  We begin new relationships, new adventures, and new projects.  Life is full of “beginnings.”

Sometimes we need new beginnings in our spiritual journey, too.  No matter how long we may have been walking with Christ, there are moments we may need to re-evaluate and re-establish the priorities God wants us to have.  That’s the focus of today’s message - “Ready, Set, Go!”

Most of us agree that focus is important.  Focus impacts our direction in life and can often shape decisions we make along the way.  That is true in our spiritual walk as well.  Right concentration helps keep us on track.  But maintaining focus is not always easy.  No matter who we are, there is always the tendency to be distracted if we’re not careful.  Today, with regard to our spiritual journey, we are exploring five weapons God has provided for the continuing battle to stay focused on the “realities of heaven.”

One day Jesus told a story about a man who had planned a banquet for his friends.  At the appropriate time the invitations were issued.  The problem was that the majority of those who had been invited decided not to come. When that happened, the host issued more invitations.  He determined that the preparations he had made, would be available to all who desired to come no matter what their station in life might be.  The story was an illustration intended to help us all understand the heart of the Father, and the invitation He has issued for all who will respond.

There is evidence all around us that we live in a fallen and thus imperfect world.  Surely that is not what God intended at creation.  While we recognize all this, as Christians we do not despair over our present earthly state.  Rather, we put our trust in the promises of God for a better world to come.

This is the second part of a three-part series of messages we have called “Life On the Other Side.”  We are exploring the Bible for some of the glimpses God gives us into what happens after we die.  Hebrews 9:27, states clearly that “…each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment…” (NLT).  That sounds ominous, and a little intimidating. But, because of another judgment, one that has already taken place, the child of God has nothing to fear from the judgment to come.

These messages will remind us of eternity, motivate us to examine our faith, and help us grasp the hope inspired by God’s Holy Word.

I’ve never been a sports team die-hard fan.  However, there are teams I like more than others.  If my particular team is doing well, I’m a fan; but if they are having a tough season, then not so much.  Mostly, I guess, you’d consider me a fair-weather fan.

       Today’s message centers on this same kind of idea regarding our relationship to Jesus Christ.  It asks, are you a dedicated Christ-follower, or just a fair-weather fan?
