In this episode, we dive into a mix of movies, books, and some personal reflections. First up, we shared our thoughts on Salem's Lot (2024), the latest adaptation of Stephen King's classic. Both of us watched this eerie tale of vampires invading a small town, and we had a lot to say about how the film’s atmosphere and scares hold up compared to King’s novel.
Richard also reviewed The Battery, a unique indie zombie movie that brings a fresh perspective on survival horror with a minimalist approach and rich character focus. We then moved into Mr. McMahon, which Richard also watched, discussing the intense storytelling and what makes this film stand out. Jesse rounded out the film reviews with The Watchers, which explores the suspenseful bond between a young girl and a strange creature, and The Ritual, a chilling journey into a Scandinavian forest that left us both haunted.
On the literary side, Richard just finished Pub in the Underworld by Harmen Cooper and they both shared fond memories from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Richard's also currently reading Alpha Wave by Jonathan Maberry, which is proving to be another intense read. We also discussed some of our favorite audiobook narrators who bring horror and suspense to life.
In a personal segment, Richard shared more about the aftermath of his 2000 wreck, while Jesse humorously (and maybe a bit annoyingly) blamed just about everything on his MS. As always, we wrapped up with our usual banter, keeping things light despite all the horror!
Tune in for movie reviews, book recommendations, and a peek into our lives—you won’t want to miss this one!
