Baseball historian Bill James once called Darrell Evans “the most underrated player in baseball history, absolutely No. 1 on the list” for, among other things, the incredibly consistent success Evans maintained throughout his 21-year Major League career. In addition to that consistency, Evans shined in the 1981 strike-shortened campaign. So with another strangely short baseball season on the horizon, senior writer Daniel Brown reached out to Evans to learn how he performed so well after a 59 day layoff and what current day ballplayers can take from his approach.
